Well what a week or so it has been. I have been very busy and I should have updated you beautiful people about my whereabouts, but unfortunately things overtook me.
When I explain what has happened I hope you will forgive me.
To start with in my previous post I wrote about doing the week 9 run and completing it - yay! I took a new route for that one, and I achieved it without getting lost, which was a bit of a result. Now completing this run, made me think, now that I have done the run once, I don't really need to do it another 3 times, I think this should be open for discussion, as to what is proper etiquette in leaving Laura.
Anyway next run was Wednesday, I woke up on Wednesday morning feeling mighty fine but another year older, yup it was my birthday, I reached the heady age of 38, which when you consider what I have done in my younger years is a bit of a result. Anyway this meant one of two things I treat myself to a lie in or I treat myself to a run. Guess what people, this couch to 5k really messes you up. I went for a run, and not any old run, it was my biggest run to date. Here is the link to the run, check out the climb I put myself through - walkjogrun.net/routes/curre....
I was absolutely kernackered by the time I got to the top, and I had to walk the last bit, but it was a brilliant feeling and I learnt something about the couchto5K approach, it gives you the strength to run, it gives you the fitness, and most importantly it gives you the mental strength to push yourself that much further, bu the time I had got my breath back and taken some early morning pictures of the sun rising, I was able to turn tale and dash down the hill at a slightly faster pace than I went up it. And as it was my birthday I could be a little bit selfish and go out for an hour and a quarter!
For my birthday my wife got me a pretty cool, and sensible present. That's what the picture is of. It's a wristband with a steel id badge on it. It is similar to the medi-alert id's but this has my name, home phone number, wifes mobile, doctors number, medical condition and blood type. Basically it's just in case I get scraped off the road, and I can't speak for myself. Bit sobering for a birthday present, but gives me and Mrs B3an peace of mind. iceid.co.uk/categories/SPOR...
So monster run on Wednesday and you would have thought that would wipe me out for the day, but no I was actually feeling pretty good, and so we want out as a family to have some fun.
Run on Friday was pretty uneventful, I took a flat run ended up doing about 5.7km, all these distances have gone up from 2 months ago and really it has been worth it.
So Sunday comes round, and I have an agreement with Mrs B3an that I can do longer runs at the weekend. So I woke up at my usual time of 5:30, which in old money was 4:30 and I was very confused as it was dark outside! But got out and did a most amaxzing run, it was fantastic, sun coming up, bit of a frosty bite in the air, and the mist floating just above the downs. What a great life an early runner has! However, bit of a tip, if you are doing a new route, take a map!
I am so rubbish when it comes to new routes. I started off on a known route then I was going to deviate from the known. So off I trotted, feeling a bit weary from the 4:30 start. I had the route in my mind and then I got to some farm houses, which I knew was near a left turn. So I turned left and ended up going down a track, which I thought was a bit weird because it was gravel, but I followed it, round the farm house only to be met by the farmers wife in her dressing gown putting out her dogs.
After an embarressed morning, I quickly turned tail and legged it out of her garden being pursued by 2 rather excited gun dogs.
So from this experience, I can offer some observations:
1) Excited gun dogs run quite fast
2) I got lost at about the 20 minute mark, so all you week 5 run 3ers who finish the run exhausted but feeling really good, in about 3 weeks, you will be able to break into a sprint after 20 minutes running. I am speaking from experience here
3) The farmer is quite a lucky man - if you catch my drift.
So then on Sunday it was a trip into Brighton for some belated b'day drinks with my best mate.
Here is another benefit which you might no tbe aware of just yet. My friend lives down the bottom of the hill by the beach, the pub we went to is about 20 minutes walk away at the top of a big big hill. I was able to walk this with ease, in the past, I was a sweaty puffy mess. So it is brilliant.
So that is why I have been a bit quiet, I have been very busy, but at least I am safe-(ish).
