week 6 run 1 completed but not easy

So this morning I headed out to do week 6 run 1 feeling very confident and thinking this would be easy after week 5 run 3!

How wrong was I, how can going back to intervals be so difficult? I honestly struggled and found this so much harder than the 20 minutes of continuous running from last time, anyone else found this?

Runs 1 and 2 of week 6 do catch a lot of runner's by surprise after the non stop 20 minutes of run 3 of week 5, this is because after running non stop for 20 minutes your legs get more accustomed for the longer run and don't like going back to walk/run mode, but if you take the running parts slowly you should be OK, I would advise you to re-run run 1 of week 6 again but this time run the running parts a little slower than you did today, good luck, after run 2 of week 6 all the runs are non stop with no walking breaks.

Thanks AlMorr I’ll give that a go, hopefully it’ll be better 2nd time round. Thanks for the good advice 👍

Loads of us... as AlMorr says... the whole idea of the programme is so structured and is reaching us so much about running... take AM's advice... maybe re run that one and take it very gently,

These longer runs that follow are perfect for a slow and steady, relaxed approach!

Well done to you !

I will refer you back to what I said after run 3 of week 5….Sometimes week 6 is a funny one because it’s back to intervals. It catches a lot of people out. 😉

We try and warn everyone about the week 6 runs because they seem to be the ones that cause the most problems for people. Most people complete them (like you!) but find them very tough (like you!). That’s how it was for me too. Most people seem to just move on to the next runs and they go absolutely fine.

You could repeat the run if you want to, but I don’t think there’s any real need to. Just concentrate on going steady on your next run (whatever you choose to do) and hopefully that will give you a good chance of finding it a bit easier.

Good luck!

Thanks MissUnderstanding, I think it just knocked my confidence a bit but it’s good to know It’s not just me who found it tough. I’m going to try and get out on Monday and we’ll see how it goes 😁

Good luck for Monday. I’m sure this is a minor blip and you will get there. As AlMorr has already said just take it gently if you decide to re run that one. Good luck👍
