yay so ran my first 5k tonight! Woop woop 36mins so not winning any races yet 😂

My first 5k race is in 2 weeks 😱 what should i do training in next few weeks? Do shorter runs? Do another 5k this week and then slow up the week before?

i have heard of “taper” week before…what do i do to achieve that and get best out of race day?!

Hello. Good to see you back with us. It has been a while I think you were on Week 7? Did you finish the C25K programme... ?

If you did and have been running 5K and other runs regularly, then just run it... just carry on with your normal running routine .you really have no need to do any specific training . Where is the race?

thanks for your advice. Yes i did complete it after going back into it at week 4 after having had nail removal surgery. Got this race then got to get more nails off so will be stopping again for a while. Hopefully i will pick it up again quite quickly after that

My advice would be to continue your normal running/training pattern, but keep a couple of days run-free before the race. Main thing: enjoy the race. As befits your current 5 K time, make sure you line up towards the back of the pack at the start. Golden rule: take it slowly at first, so your muscles warm up nicely. You don’t want to come home injured! After about 1 km you will find runners going at about the right pace for you to follow. Stay at a comfortable pace, walk (jeff) a bit if you have accidentally gone too fast at the beginning. As long as you stay cool and in control, the adrenalin and the pull of the leaders will almost certainly deliver you at the finish line in a faster time than you expected.

Thanks for your advice. Definitely think i may head off a bit quick! Need to just get in the zone and forget its a race and enjoy
