5k Race Warm-Up Advice Needed

Hi everyone

Though I’m only on W7 R3, I entered a 5k race (on 15th July) as motivation when I first started the C25K programme. I should be finishing the programme this week but due to having 2 weeks out through injury I’m not due to graduate until the week before the race. I will reduce W9 to 2 runs so R3 will be the 5K graduation run. My question is, how do I warm up for the race? Is simply walking briskly for 5-10 minutes before taking to the start line enough or should I be thinking about doing more? Any advice would be gratefully received, thanks 😊

I am running a 5k each week now and I just do the same 5 min warm up walk (and warm down walk after) that I’ve done throughout Couch to 5K.

Wow! Well done! And thanks for your advice. I thought it would be fine but as it’s an ‘official’ race I didn’t want to do it wrong lol!! 😂👍

Just beware the temptation to fly off fast at the start. Go at your pace and you will probably catch people up who went too quickly.

Yes, that’s my worry, that I’ll get carried away at the start 😮!!

(And don’t be too impressed -

I’ve done 5k precisely twice!)

That’s fine. I don’t even do a warm up walk. I should for definite. Good luck you’ll enjoy every minute!
