So the big day is nearly upon us, my 5k Race For Life - in fact by the time I've posted this it will only be half an hour away. My runs were out of sync this week as it was also, inconveniently, my birthday, so I should've run today, but opted to have an extra rest day & save my energy/avoid injury for tomorrow, especially given the heat. In fact, I see we have a heatwave warning!
I'm up to the final run of week 8 in my training so am up to 28 minutes - I know that's not enough to do a 5k yet at my snail-speed, but you know what? I'm just gonna keep my pace & see how I go. I feel a little apprehensive but overall quietly confident that actually, I can do this. I'm not competing against anyone except myself but my aim is, if I can, to jog the whole course. If I can't, then that's ok too, 'cause I know I will have still done well. Plus, I've already raised £105 for Cancer Research & have got myself into a new habit of running that hopefully will last for the rest of my lifetime.
Bring it on.

Thanks everyone! Well the run started at 11am & by then it was 30°c... But somehow I not only managed to drag myself doing what felt like the slowest jog ever round the whole 5k without stopping or walking, but I did it in 33 minutes 40 seconds (actually less about 20 seconds to get across the start line in the first place). So, I ran (jogged) 5k! And I ran for 33 minutes! In baking heat! And I somehow upped my pace a bit compared to what I've measured on the treadmill! All good!
I did struggle from about the 3k mark though & started feeling a bit kind of sick, & really didn't know if I was going to be able to keep going, but just kept putting one foot in front of the other & breathing.
I'm not a 'graduate' yet & shall continue with week 9 this coming week, but I've now run a 5k. Job done 😀
Finished wk 6 yesterday and today also had race for life in very hot weather as this is a rest day the plan was to jog a bit and walk a bit so I set off (much slower than you) and just concentrated on breathing and taking in the seafront view
I got to the 2.5k turnaround point and felt ok so kept on going at same pace but planned to walk at 3k marker I must have missed it as next thing I saw was 4K sign still felt ok breathing wise just hot and sweaty so kept going with the finish line in sight I gritted my teeth and completed the race in 42.15 not as fast as you but also job done
Still got 3 weeks to go on the plan and hoping for better time next year 😎
