W6, run 2 ~ why oh why did that feel harder

Hi everyone, so today, I made it to W6, run 2 … why oh why did that feel harder than W5, run 3.

Did not help when I heard Jo mention I had done 5 mins (of 2nd run), some time later, thought I must be nearing the end, glanced down to discover I still had 6 mins 40 seconds 😩.

Believing I had inadvertently done something, stopped running only to discover it was 6 minutes 40 seconds to end of the complete session - I simply couldn’t get restarted and plodded back home miffed with myself.

🍏Don’t despair!! The best of runners have days like that. It’s those runs that teach us more about ourselves and our running. Have a good rest day or two then go out determined to not only do it again, but to enjoy it. Make sure you hydrate well over the rest days & do a dynamic warm up of your muscles before going out. Take it really slowly this time so you have plenty left in the tank to finish🐌. Each run has a new challenge built in but all the previous runs have prepared you for it. You can definitely do it. I am sure your next post will testify to that! 💪

Thanks Annieapple, lol, I’ve I went much slower I’d be walking 😂 .. Hopefully Mojo will kick in when needed on Monday’s run 🤞

It's a common fallacy that speed is the difference between walking and running. It isn't. When you're walking, you'll always have one or both feet in contact with the ground. When you're running, there's a point at which neither foot is in contact with the ground. So it's perfectly possible to walk faster than you run.

Don't forget that W6R2 is also longer than W5R3.

Week 6 affects many like this , especially the return to walk breaks after the continuous 20 min run in Week 5. I remember this being a tough week for me…but you absolutely can do this! Don’t fall into the trap of believing the Gremlins - stay strong mentally and tell yourself you’ve got this! 💪🙂

I am at the same stage as you, and also found it hard. I was surprised, as managing the 20 min run in week 5 felt like a real achievement. I did read somewhere about hitting a 10 minute wall, so am wondering if such a thing exists? Anyway - I shall keep trying - good luck.

I've not heard of a ten-minute wall, but have certainly experienced the "Toxic Ten", which refers to the first ten minutes of a run: healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
