Week 8 run 2.. worst run yet

Had my worst run so far and feel so discouraged, especially so close to the end of the programme. I think I have shin splints as horribly sore shins since yesterday, probably shouldn’t have run today, but went anyway. 16 mins in I had to walk for 60 seconds and then I managed to run for the last 9 mins, but definitely felt worse after. Just feel frustrated I really want to continue, but don’t know how long it’ll take it recover! No reason for this post just to rant 😅

Oh no! Rant away. Sorry you’re going through this. It’s horrible when injuries strike. Unfortunately, they’re pretty common but fortunately, they do get better. The most important thing to do is to allow yourself to heal and not make anything worse by running while you’re in pain.

Have you had a look at the NHS page about what to do if you get shin splints? There’s some good advice there and some guidance about when you might need to see someone.

Hope it’s a quick recovery ❤️‍🩹

Sorry to hear you've had a bad run hopefully it's not shin splints and you'll be able to finish the c25k course

Sorry to hear this !I was actually injured first time through the programme 3 years ago on week 8 run 1

I had to take 16 days out but i needed it to heal ,

Take a look at the link provided by MissUnderstanding and give yourself time to be pain free before running again .

When you do , running on softer surfaces if possible can help and trying to make sure you don't over stride as heel landing can transfer the shock through your shins .

Hope you can recover soon !

I know how you feel. It's just so dispiriting to get injured so far into the programme. Personally, I found taking time to heal plus doing some targeted exercises helped me, although my injury is different to yours. And then when coming back to dial back to some earlier runs and repeating some of those. If it's any consolation, I thought W8 was hard anyway, those extra 3 minutes don't sound much, but took me some mental grit at a slow pace to complete.

rest, heal, and take time to recover, its better to redo a week or too when recovered than try to plod on and injure yourself further

Being still in week 6, I would say that there is no reason to be demoralised (though I do Understand). You did it. It may not have been how you wanted, but you still did it.

So, from me, it’s a huge CONGRATULATIONS!!
