hi I’m on week 7 of couch to 5k but had to stop this week due to severe hip pain, I feel gutted, seeing a physio tomorrow and hoping I don’t have to stop running, I really love it. Anyone else had this? I am 43, never ran in the past and I am 3 stone overweight which I am working on.

🍏 Feel for you!! well done for seeing a physio!! The runs will wait don’t worry. Sometimes a bit of rest a good exercises sorts the problem but let’s wait and see. Please let us know the outcome!

Oh that's such a shame! Hopefully the physio will get you on the path to running again with some strengthening exercises. They are more important as you get into the longer runs. Just really take your time building back up, it's a long game.

I was out, for six weeks, with Hip Pain at one stage. Physio recommended stretching exercises

Very frustrating.

Hang in there. It's great when you get back.

I had severe hip pain over the summer. As I was travelling I couldn't get to the doctor. After 4-5 months of it a 10 minute appointment where I was shown one exercise it sorted itself out within a week.

Good luck (the problem was the ilio tibial band or ITB) hope yours is sorted as quickly.

Hi. I know this was posted a while ago but can I ask what exercise they gave you please?

Absolutely!

To stretch the right hand ITB you stand, then cross your right foot over to the other side of your left foot then, standing straight as you can you stretch your body sideways. When the doctor showed me it looked like he was about to start line dancing and I couldn't stop laughing but it's really effective.

He suggested holding onto a chair/surface for balance but I find it easier to raise my right arm over my head and towards the left to get the best stretch.

Obviously reverse all this for stretching the left side.

It's really hard to describe a stretch without pictures but if you google ITB stretches you'll get lots of suggestions. I found this one with a picture of a guy doing 'my' stretch :)

I had time out with hip pain. I had physio and it recovered over time and I didn’t miss too much running. I found doing couch to 5k probably worked my way through all my body weaknesses one at a time but then I could work on them so improving my general state of health! I hope it goes well for you!
