Been on the IC since April 24h….bit fed up now!

Hi,

I completed C25K a few years ago, and run regularly. I started having pain in both feet earlier this year, which felt like Plantar Fasciitis, which I had had very successful surgery for over 20 years ago! ( I must have been REALLY lucky with the results, as it’s hardly done now, as it’s not thought to help much!). Anyway, I carried on running and developed bilateral lateral pain as well, so went to see a physio who thought I might have 5th metatarsal stress fractures….as I have osteopenia! Fortunately I didn’t.

I then went to see a foot and ankle consultant, and another physio, and was told I had plantar fasciitis and Peroneal brevis tendonopathy in both feet. I’ve since had a course of shock wave therapy, and more physio which has slightly improved the plantar fasciitis. Last Friday I had a ultrasound guided steroid injection around my right tendon, and have been told to keep off my feet for 2 weeks, to avoid me rupturing my tendon!

Anyway, I’m just a bit fed up with it all now, and was wondering if the same thing has happened to anybody else, and when/if they managed to get back to running again.

Sorry for the ramble!

Oh my goodness that sounds painful. I have a degree of PF but not enough to stop me. I do have regular maintenance from a chiropracter which I find really helpful and effective.

I’m crossing everything that I can start to run at some point in the future, but suspect it might not be until next year!

🍏🤗 So sorry to hear about this and commiserate with you! The IC can be so frustrating!!! However I am very pleased you have had good medical advice. While those runs wait do something else. Have you tried any of the ideas in the strength and Flex program… doing something positive that will help your running may just make it all less exasperating!

Thank you, I shall go and check it out. I have to wait for 2 weeks before I do any physio or anything though, but no harm in looking!

Sorry you are dealing with all this Dansac29 . I've had shockwave therapy for PF (and steroid injections years ago). By chance, on one appointment, I was allocated a different physiotherapist who positioned my foot differently during the shockwave therapy, and that seemed to improve things thereafter. Not any help to you, I know, but I just wanted to sympathise and wish you well in recovery.

Thank you Lydia for your kind words. I’m just so frustrated, as I can hardly walk at the moment, let alone run!! I’ve probably had a 50% improvement in my PF symptoms, after the shock wave therapy.

I’m just waiting for the steroids to take affect! Fingers crossed!

Hi, how are you getting on?

I really feel for you 😢 I’m currently on the IC too with plantar - it’s been around 9 weeks and I’m really missing running. I’ve been having physio each week for the last 3 weeks which is helping and I can get out for a walk now (I was limping for a while) but it’s still sore after a walk so not sure how much longer until I can run.

Let me know how you get on with your treatment 🤞🏻

I think it’s a long road to recovery!!! I’ve had a steroid injection around my peroneal brevis tendon, which has helped that! However, the plantar fascia on the same foot, still is causing a lot of limping and pain! I’m seeing the foot consultant again next week, and hopefully going to be able to book a steroid injection in that area too! Ive restarted seeing my physio too! Sadly, my job ( nurse) means I’m on my feet a lot! I’m determined to get back to running, but realistically for me, won’t be this year!

On the positive side, I’ve managed to buy some lovely Hokas, as they are a dream to limp around in!! 😂

Lots of luck for your recovery too!

Ah hopefully you can get another injection to help your plantar. 🤞🏻

Yes when I’ve been reading up on it nurses suffer a lot as you’re on your feet all the time. I’m a teacher and usually am in my feet but I’ve had to have some sit down time in class 🙈

I bought some Hoka sliders but they were too small - I’m desperate to buy new trainers so I can look at them until I start running again 😆

I’ll keep my eye out for your future posts 👍🏻

I bought some Hoka sliders over the summer, and they were a life saver!! I do find Hoka come up a bit small, and go up a size, even for non running!

Enjoy half term if you are off work this work, and rest your feet!

Oh that’s good to know - I’ll put them back in my shopping cart 👍🏻

I’ve got a walk planned next week but physio said that should be fine 🤞🏻 thanks
