9 months away from running due to injury, but now able to start the programme again!

I completed the programme a few years ago, but have not run for 9 months due to injury. I have had a suspected stress fracture ( wasn’t in the end!), bilateral plantar fasciitis and peroneal tendonitis . I have had shock wave therapy, steroid injections and lots and lots of physio! However, today my lovely physio has said I can very slowly and carefully start running again!!🥳🥳! He has suggested I restart couch to 5K, but taking my time with it! I am beyond excited!

Welcome back! It’s an exciting (and sometimes slightly scary) feeling when the physio gives you the go ahead. It took me a while to feel like myself and not constantly be checking in with how my knee was feeling. Setbacks sometimes come but they’re just that-a pretty normal part of returning to running. I found it really helpful to compare with my time on the injury couch rather than how I was running before. Mentally it can be tough to be building back again but remember ever step is getting you closer to where you want to be. Wishing you a very happy rerun!

Thank you so much! I’ve missed running so much. I’m happy starting from scratch, it’s a brand new journey!

That’s brilliant. Can’t wait to hear how you get on! There’s nothing like being not able to run to make you really appreciate putting the trainers on again.

Wishing you lots of luck as you return to running! I was out for the best part of 6 mths with a high hamstring injury/tendonitis. Tendonitis can be a real nuisance to heal ( as you already know!) but I am now back up to 10k again. I also returned using the early weeks of Couchto5k initially. Good luck!🙂

Thank you! I’m going to take things really slowly, as I don’t want to end up at square one again. I do think I deserve a new pair of running shoes though! 😂

Yes go and treat yourself to some new shiny shoes, that’s what I did as a reward for getting back out there.

Wow, you have been to war!I do hope your injuries continue to resolve.

Good luck with your return, and take it nice and steady.

Perhaps treat every run like a recovery run for a while. Good luck X

brilliant news for you! Injury is the worst feeling, I had plantar fasciitis and was out of action for 3 months which was hard enough but you’ve had 9 months out!!

Ct5k is perfect for coming back from injury - even if you need to repeat weeks until you get stronger you’ll still be out running.

I feel like I really appreciate being able to run after not being able to - good luck, I look forward to reading your posts ☺️

I’m more or less in the same boat as you- not run for 8 months after an op so I’m starting again too. Good luck with it 👍🙏
