Not a running injury, but one I sustained when I was climbing a gate and I slipped. It appears I have some bone fragments swishing around as well as lateral collateral ligament damage. I may need surgery, but other than that I was told it will be six to nine months!! That's a life sentence. To make matters worse, I later found out that the gate wasn't locked!!

Oh no! As we get older we find we don't bounce as easily any more.

True, but the real lesson is to check to check if the gate is unlocked before you climb it! I shall learn... one day.

🍏 🫣so so sorry 😞! There are no words! However know we will be praying for an uncomplicated recovery. Let us know after your next check up!

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. I like the sound of uncomplicated too, and I really hope it is. I shall send an update when I have seen the orthopaedic person, but I'm hoping an operation isn't needed [or should that be kneeded?].

😊 hopefully notkneeded!!!🤣

Or, as it currently feels, knotkneeded. If only I could unzip my leg and sort out the elastic bands that are dodgy. Dear God, when you do your next revision on human design, can we have better knees?

Thanks. I can still watch videos of running, and I can marvel at a friend who ran the Snowdon marathon with his sons a little while ago.

Yes you can

Oh crikey you made me laugh about the gate being locked, 😁...but having said that, the injury is definitely NOT funny. Really sorry to read about possible surgery etc. I just want to extend some hope to you that the 'life sentence' does pass and you will get through it and run again. I've been on the injury couch for all of this year. I hope to run again in about a month.

Continuing to read on here, especially about other comebacks keeps my spirits up. Wishing you all the very best for a speedy recovery. 💐

P.S. There is a runner called Ben Parkes on youtube who had a nasty ankle break. He filmed his emotional journey to recovery.

Thanks for the reply, and take care of yourself as you ease back in later in the year. Remember, listen to your body and pay attention to what it is telling you. I shall see if I can watch Ben's videos and take inspiration. At least I am still able to walk after a fashion - à la Douglas Bader - for a few paces around the house now it is splinted. As for gates... well, I WILL look next time.

oh no, poor you, how awful especially to find the gate was not locked and now your out for at least 9 months, that would be my worst nightmare

No running and little hill walking, but maybe some cycling(?) for far, far too long. At least I didn't break my leg properly.

Oh no! So sorry to read this 🙈 wishing you a speedy recovery and the runs will be waiting when you’re ready to return. Rest and recover well 🖤

... and all because the lady loves milk tray, oh, hang on, that should be and all because the complete nitwit didn't check to see if the gate was unlocked!

Oh my goodness. Hopefully all will be resolved and sorted . The rus wait..you get recovered and rest assured, there's lots of strength and stamina work available to keep your body and one working leg active! Positivity or what!!!

Thanks. I will take it slowly and sensibly, and I shan't try the literal running before I can walk business. I shall aim to keep up my fitness however I can, and I shall look online at respected forums and site for what I can do.

Oh my goodness that is impressive, but not in a good way! Heal well and well is probably more important than quickly. And check the gate - sorry but that did make me laugh, all too relateable!

Aye, we have all done things like it, but I hope others were luckier then. I have been. A few more paces and check the gate... next time. Stay well and run with the wind always behind you.

Thanks. I hope so too, as does my wife so she doesn't have to play nurse to me - not that she minds, being the good egg she is.

Oh nooooooo!!! I can only imagine!

But don’t be a stranger, and the following two sister forums (with a lot of runners posting as well) might be useful:

★★★ Strength and Flexibility Forum :  S&F is all about our needs as runners and walkers, or generally needing a bit more strength and flexibility-related workouts in your life. It includes a NHS-associated five-week programme delivered through a series of podcasts. healthunlocked.com/strength...

★★★ Active10 : Active10 is for those who want to include regular walking into their daily lives, with a dedicated walking app for iOS and Android. healthunlocked.com/active10

Thanks for the advice. I'll see the orthopaedic bod and then look at the ones you suggest. Fingers crossed for a full and speedy recovery and then a slow re-re-introduction to running.

Greetings , One of my work outs is to place Gracie on a Pooch Step. Dog not needed, I then step into a life jacket and wear like a diaper, I then don a pair of scuba fins and you can then lay back and kick. I am on a lake but a large pool would work. No weight bearing , I do not know if your meniscus or bone frags would interfere. Again Dog and Pooch Step not necessary. you can do upper body weight training . Blue Skies , Sky King and Penny ( woof) you can message me and I can send you pics. I was a Sports Chiro, in former life and trained pro Moto -Cross riders and Football players. you have to get creative sometimes....Good Luck. Do not shut down...Hey being able to laugh at yourself is really important, means you are real. We all have the ole dumb ass in us and if you are active it will rise up and get you! On the other hand if you are a couch potato you will stand up and collapse!!! keep moving...

Thanks. As I used to dive I have some fins, so all I now need is some water, and, looking out of my cottage window at the bank holiday weather, I need venture no further than the garden! Take care, and happy running and the like.
