Well after speaking with physio this morning and after her advice I think my running days are a long way away as like she and others have said running is not the best for osteoarthritis in the knee, she said cos I have had the cortisone injection that is is stopping the pain but it don't last forever. Soo advice is keep riding the bike and knee strengthening.Thank you too all have given me advice 😊
Update: Well after speaking with physio this... - Couch to 5K
Update
Au contraire!
There is increasing evidence that running can actually **improve** knee OA in some cases.
Don't rule yourself out of running just yet.
Take it one step at a time. It’s most important to be guided by the health professionals involved in your care. Hopefully that will mean a gentle return to running when they give you the nod. In the meantime, keep following their advice and I hope you’re able to enjoy exercising in other ways. Best wishes to you.
Not sure now that running is going help
It sounds like you’re still in the phase of doing some physio and other exercise to see if that will allow you to start running again. They haven’t yet said to give up running. Have I got that right?
Sorry you’re going through this. It must really hard to deal with not knowing what will happen in the future regarding your running. Perhaps really focus on your physio exercises and cycling for now and see what your physio says at your next review. Have you been able to enjoy your time on the bike at all?
Oh gosh... this is not good news, but there may be some glimmer of hope. Did the MRI show that it was osteoarthritis ?
Didn't have an mri as I have said in other post I know got it as I had to have the left knee replaced due too osteoarthritis and also have had my elbows scraped due to it as well
You're being advised to keep doing some cycling. That's very hopeful, and any activity is good.
There's a pity but listening to your own body and the experts is sensible😔☺️
That’s disappointing but probably sensible advice. Swimming might be a good exercise for you too.
4 years ago I started walking the Saturday Parkruns, got jealous of the joggers and on week 3 did a little gentle jogging on and off around the course and waited to see what would happen. Nothing. No extra aches and pains. So I did a little more each week and got to doing jog/walk Parkrun 5K usually between 40 and 43 mins. My leg muscles got stronger and I wear knee pads to keep everything in line and for protection in case I trip up. Recently I overdid things and ended up at the physio who gave me exercises and the instruction to only walk until the pains were better and to start running again really carefully. I am back Parkrunning again and doing 5K in 43-45 minutes. Not sure if it is fitness or age affecting things these days. Probably both.
