Different result from gait analysis

So yesterday after much deliberation I went to a different running shop to buy some new running shoes. I’ve had a bad knee and been on the IC for ages, and now I’m back to running (not 3 times per week yet but I’m getting there.) I explained I’d had a gait analysis done and that I was a neutral shoe, we tried some pairs of running shoes on and she made me run up and down outside the shop (which was in Central London 😱) she commented that she didn’t think I was a neutral shoe - my ankles roll in, especially the left!) Tried a pair with support in and there was a massive difference. She said that the neutral shoes I have been wearing could’ve contributed to the knee injury. I feel like I’ve been given a completely different service from this shop - like they really want me to have the right shoes. I will definitely go back to them.

That's good you got it sorted, there was another post on here yesterday re different GA, thanks for the heads up.

Was the shop you went to run and become in Victoria? I've heard they are very good, think I will try them for my next pair of shoes..😊

Hi davelinks,

I am glad to have got it sorted. Wearing the right shoes is important and I am so keen to keep running so am hoping these shoes help me to do that.

Yes it was Run and Become. The young lady who served me was very good. You should try them.

Oooooh - I know where I am going when in London come September :)

Make a change to have my Daughter hanging around chewing her nails to the elbow with boredom while Dad shops for shoes! - BONUS! 😂😂😂😂😂

Hey Irish-John, I would recommend them.

They made me run up the street 4 times!!!! With my trousers rolled up so she could see what was going on. I am even allowed to go for a couple of short runs and if they aren’t for me I can bring them back.

Do you have to make an appointment?

No I just walked in. They are really close to Victoria Station.

It is really worth having it done properly, I always go to an independent store, they rely on their reputation. The one I go to film you , and you get to try several pairs until they’re happy, then they send you outside, it’s a work out in itself 😂

I’ve gone the opposite, started in stability shoes, now in neutral - it happens apparently....but I started to get aches and niggles and same for me, it was likely the stability shoes were contributing to the issue....back to being a happy bunny now, hope it works out for you and the knee niggle sorts.

I did get it done before. Completely different this time though and like you say the independent stores rely on their reputation. I would definitely recommend them

Let's hope that solves the problem.

Gait analysis is only as good as the individual carrying it out, whether that is because of their commitment to getting it right or their training, as stated in the guide to gait analysis healthunlocked.com/couchto5....

Fingers crossed.

Always check credentials. The guy selling me fishing gear last week didn't know his Bass from his elbow.

😂 I agree. The young lady knew her stuff

Ha ha, yes, one shop I went into (part of a chain) I asked about some shoes that looked like trail shoes/hybrids that were reduced, I asked ‘are these trail shoes’ he said ‘they’re for running’......I left the shop, and I’ve never been back.....😂

She did gait analysis by eye! Just by looking? No cameras, video, treadmill. Did she make you run in your bare feet - the only true measure of gait analysis.

Yeah by eye. I didn’t run in bare feet. I did walk in bare feet though. I ran in the street, with my trousers rolled up so she could see what was happening.
