Week 6 Run 1 - Great Advice

Thanks to everyone who gave good advice after my issues on week 5 run 3, when max heartrate was too high and I was panting and not feeling great at the end.

I slowed it waaaaay down and today was fine - I'd heard people struggled with this session but to be honest it was the easiest due to my much slower pace. I have learnt my lesson - if this slow pace is doing me just as much good building fitness and stamina then great, I have confidence of making it to the end, something I felt would be impossible just 6 weeks ago.

Also, I am listening to a really interesting podcast (on the missing confederacy treasure from the American Civil War!) and I find being absorbed in that makes the time fly by, rather than songs which you know are 4 minutes each.

It is the only time I really have to listen such podcasts so this will be a great routine for after the 9 week course is up.

Pace is key!

And the conversational pace will give you the best development.

Enjoy the rest of the program 👍

Isn’t it great when you realize that a slower pace makes running so enjoyable?

Yes, I felt like a fraud but actually observing other runners I see they’re pretty much all doing the same pace.

Honestly, don’t feel like a fraud, if you are pushing yourself too hard, getting really puffed out and not really enjoying running, you not only risk injury but you are more likely to give up, I can now run faster for a while but I like nothing more than just to get out there on a sunny day and run for an hour or more without getting puffed out, feeling the air on my skin and looking around at the world, and the longer runs have built good muscles in my legs so I can do that pretty much whenever I want, it feels really good, I really didn’t ever think it was possible. So keep that slow running going and over time you’ll find your pace is faster than in the beginning
