Week 4 Run 1 - Not Great!

So i did Week 4 Run 1 last night, and it didnt feel great at all....

Felt slightly queasy (Only chance i had to run was about 45 mins after dinner! I know, not good)

Shins/Knee's started to hurt towards the end (Think this is down to me going far to fast on my last run, whereby the pain in my shins was horrible when i finished...lesson learned! This time only slightly painful towards the end as i slowed down a lot!)

Basically my slowest run yet, but felt the worst one yet. Completed the run, and ready to move on to the next one, so hopefully its just a bad day.

Gah! We all have a bad run now and again, but usually we can identify why - as you have - so just chalk it up to experience. Do some gentle calf stretches, and maybe consider leaving 2 days before your next run. Allow yourself to heal. I have done that a couple of times and it really helps. Pace is so key at these early stages, so watch your speed, Speedy Gonzales!

Don't despair. Your next run will be great. Rest. The most important thing for us new runners is to be safe and steady. 🏃‍♀️😀

Thank you - i know what the problem has been, i started a new route a couple of weeks ago, and noticed a few of my PB's on Strava were coming down, and foolishly, tried to hard to beat them on my last run!

Lesson learnt - and a route change is happening on my next run! Silly Me!

Right so the worst one!

That's the one you should be proud of. If running was easy everyone would do it. its completing the tough ones that build stamina, confidence and take us on to the next one - nice one:-)

I have never thought of it that way - thank you!

Sometimes the crap run monster makes a visit. You ran, it's in the bank, and never ever ever look at PBs at this stage, because it encourages you to go faster but you're building stamina and distance. Speedy can wait until post graduation I promise....

Take your time in run 2 and you'll be fine

Thanks Jancanrun - I know where I have gone wrong and a bit annoyed at myself for even trying to go too fast!

I have slapped myself on the wrist, and will let you all know how Run 2 goes.
