Shins have been sore since yesterday, so decided not to go ahead with my w7r2 that I had planned to do today A bit disappointed but wanted to give it a bit of rest.
Any tips on how to avoid that going forward?

Thank you for the link IT, it was a very informative read. I think old running shoes have caused my shins splints. I have been running really slowly & avoiding heal strikes since the forum members advised to not follow Laura's tip re heal strike.
The problem is basically caused by your muscles not being strong enough to cope with the impact........so reduce impact and do strengthening exercises.
Thank you for the quick responses. Really appreciate it. I will do some research on strengthening exercises.

How frustrating! But you are right to take a rest .
Do you stretch after every run ?
Paying particular attention to the calves.
Also try running on softer surfaces if possible.
Footwear can also be an issue , are you running in proper running shoes following advice after a gait analysis ?
Take a look at the article linked to by IannodaTruffe !
Also, here is another that may help .
Hi I57, i do stretch after each run. I have not been stretching pre-run though. And I am using a few years old run/walk shoes. Didnt want to invest in running shoes if I decided not continue with the programme as I had never thought I would actually want to run one day.
No, haven't done the gait analysis either. I m very new to running, as in i have never run since school. I didnt even know it is a thing. Where do i get that done?
Really appreciate your advice.
If you are a regular runner now it's definitely worth investing in proper running shoes .You would get a gait analysis done at a dedicated running shop where they would get you to run just a couple of minutes on a treadmill and video your running gait .
They would then advise shoes based on that result .
