First 5K

Grannie49 profile image

Well I started running for first time in my 71 years of life last August. I had had a hip replacement 2 years before but was otherwise healthy. Now nearly one year on I ran 5K. Not terribly fast and certainly more than 30 minutes. But I did it.

I want to thank everyone and the whole programme for the support and encouragement I have received. It has made a huge contribution.

Congratulations and well done. Keep running as if you don’t use it, you lose it. I’m 71 and taking a nice slow pace to increase endurance.

Well done Grannie49. I was going to say what a fantastic example, but really….just do it for your amazing self. 🙂

Well done, that first 5k is very special

Congratulations 🎊, it really is an achievement, you should be feeling very pleased with yourself, especially after hip surgery! It's good to know the age barriers are being pushed back - encouraging to younger and older runners alike. Best wishes ☺️

Very impressive and inspiring. Just goes to prove that age is not a barrier and older people can do anything they please if they want to enough. Have loads of more great runs 😊

Wow. I feel overwhelmed by all these lovely replies. Thank you all this is truly a fabulous place. 🙂

My wife aged 74 wanted to start running again but after 2 knee replacements and a hip replacement , she has been advised not to. Has to be content with walking.

Walking is good too. She has been through the mill. The research evidence on running with a hip replacement is mixed but I take it easy. Knees are probably different.

Well done :-)
