Week 9 run 1 - tomorrow. Dreading it more than my alarm clock. 🙄

Really struggled and battled through week 8. Did it though I feel like I’ve reached my limit and the little voice in my head keeps telling me to stop. Throughout the program i have felt relaxed and excited at the idea of pushing myself a bit but right now feeling totally unmotivated. It’s such a disappointing feeling! Suggestions and tips would be super welcome! Merci. 🤗

UPDATE - read all the replies just before heading out. Had positive outlook, changed my playlist, warmed up properly, slowed down and also put that little voice right at the back of my mind and I DID IT! Can hardly believe it. Gosh I did it! 30 mins... chuffed I posted on here. Made such a difference. Merci beaucoup.

Don't forget to warm up and cool down properly, 5-10mins can be enough, helps keep you flexible and recovering well. The recover in between runs is just as important. Massages, hot/cold and gentle stretches are a good shout.

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

I don't think I have ever known anyone dread W9 when they have actually got there.

Can you speak aloud, clear, ungasping sentences as you run?.........if not, you are going too fast.

Slowing down to the recommended easy conversational pace makes it more achievable and for most, more enjoyable.

Are you fully hydrated as recommended in the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

This post about mental approach may help healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

It is impossible to fail this plan unless you just give up. Relax and believe in yourself........which is far better for performance than being uptight and despondant.

If you want to do this, you will..........nice and slowly at an easy conversational pace.

Slow down. You’ll find it easier and therefore more enjoyable. Listen to music too if you don’t already 👍🏽

You don't have to finish strong, but you need to finish. You can do this and be a better person than who you were last week. Remember why you even started. I believe in you!

Week 9 is only 2 minutes more than week 8, so you can do it. Just make sure to take the pace slowly so you’re not exhausted towards the end. Listen to something that will distract you, music, radio or podcasts and you will be graduating in no time 🙂

Oh and when you feel like stopping, think about coming on here to tell us all you have completed it, that will keep you going!

I struggled with week 8 too i felt very demotivated, it was my least favourite week 😬 But the point is you did it and finished it which is already an amazing achievement in itself which you should be so proud of! For week 9 just slow down a bit and try to enjoy it, and over the weeks i have found the runs where i didnt drink enough water the day before so much harder.. so hydration is important too! I actually enjoyed week 9 a lot more than 8 when i actually went out and did it though. Good luck - you will be great 👍🥳

I battled with that voice in my head that told me I couldn't do it as well but tried to drown it out with all the voices on here saying trust the programme. It really works.

I really struggled with week 8 and one run of week 9, then something clicked, mainly, I think, I slowed right down. Enjoy it x

I’ve just completed week 9 run 1 and boy am I pleased that I did it. The little voice kept telling me I couldn’t but I just thought a little bit further and before I knew it I had Sarah telling me I only had 60 seconds to go so no way was I going to stop until the end. Glad it’s a rest day tomorrow and think I need to find a route that doesn’t have a ruddy great big hill in it! 😂 I hope you did it today and I hope we both get back out there on Wednesday.

Hello! I did it, was a beautiful crisp morning. I can hardly believe that the last run is tomorrow 😊. Felt like giving up at the start of the week. I’m in a much stronger mental position now. Having said that I have my 1st vaccine injection today so hopefully won’t suffer any side effects as I want the last run to be smooth and a success. Hopefully you’re feeling as positive as me!

Hello, Bloody awesome to hear you did it. I think that little voice in our heads needs a good talking to at times! We are stronger than it thinks. I graduated yesterday, so pleased with myself and it was an easier run which made it all the more special. How was your run? The jab made me a little flu like for a couple of days so if this happens to you, don’t fret it doesn’t last long, take your time if you are feeling a little under the weather.

I hope to hear you’ve done it too! 👍👩‍🎓😆🥳

Hello! Yes I did although I felt a bit fluey, the run went well, really well. Every time that little voice came back and whispered it’s ok to stop you had the jab yesterday, I powered through and I completed the full run!

Going to work through consolidation runs now and aiming to take part in parkruns when they start again. That way I can keep focused on a goal. Have you got any similar plans? S.

Wow that’s awesome congratulations fellow graduate 👩‍🎓 😁 I’m so pleased for you and yes I too plan park runs when they start up. I’m lucky I live right next to a park so I have no excuse! In the meantime I’m planning to spend a couple of weeks consolidating and enjoying being able to get out and run! Purchased myself a new running top so now I HAVE to get out and show it off 😂🤣😂

Hello! Same as you I live right by a park and therefore have no excuse! I managed just under 4K in 30 mins so planning to build up from that and hopefully will manage a full 5k in next couple of months. I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself. Still on a high from completing the programme. Also got new shoes on their way so excited to try them on! I’ll be keeping the 3 runs a week pattern as my new routine. Let me know how you get on with yours! S.
