Week 1 run 1: 9 stone overweight... That's a big title and a big ask. I've done run 1 5 times now. First time I did the first 1 min run then walked the rest, second time I did the first 3 runs, third time I did the first 5 runs then last night I did the first 4 due to shin splints I've lost 10lbs already but at 18.5 stone running is a big ask on my legs. My mission is to be able to do week 1 by the end of next week and move on to week 2... It's slow, but at least it's progress right? Determined to get down to 10sr by 25/8/2016 (2lbs a week) so running will massively help that I hope!
Week 1 run 1: 9 stone overweight...: Week 1 run... - Couch to 5K
Week 1 run 1: 9 stone overweight...
Good luck with it, its working for me.
I have lost nearly 2 stone since January 7th (W1R1). I havent really changed eating habits apart from dropping out of the office biscuit roster
Hi HanPan! Well done - I'm impressed. 10lb down already and five runs done and dusted? A big pat on the back to you for the achievement and for the determination! Keep us posted and just concentrate on one day at a time; try not to put too much pressure on yourself to lose a given amount of weight in a given time, because it'll drop off automatically, slowly but surely, if you concentrate on eating healthily every day and keep up the great exercise plan.
Well done. Brilliant work, keep at it.
Great job. With that determination you can keep at this and continue to make a real difference to your wellbeing. Keep posting on here for support and let us know your progress.
Well done for starting the programme that's the hardest bit. You've done really well so far and it doesn't matter how many repeats of runs you do or how slow you go just stick with it. Enjoy! X 😊
Wowzer! There's an achiever, right there! HanPanStrawberryJam!
Yep! What they said!
Brilliant job getting started now make everything a habit. Repeat weeks whenever you need to as many times as you need to and be proud, be really proud that you're turning things around!
All the best!
Thanks guys! Well today (after yesterday's shin splints) I've taken some advice I read on here on another post and joined a gym. Apparently my splints were probably caused by running on a rough(ish) country track, at my weight it's likely a lot too harsh on my legs for the time being. So instead of writing myself off as a hopeless case I'm going to try treadmills until I've built up some decent leg strength. I'll also do some resistance training with my upper body to help minimise excess skin as I drop the weight so all around not a bad idea I think!
I've lost 10lbs in 3 weeks and I have 118 to go at a rate (roughly) of 2lbs a week, although I'm not stressing too much about this as it's more about the direction my weight is going in rather than the speed it travels!
I'm calorie controlling with MyFitnessPal and also using Bounts (reward app) to save up points to reward myself with a new wardrobe once I'm at goal. Bounts gives you reward points for doing exercise so it just seemed appropriate to use those points as a final middle finger up to my size 20 body
I am monumentally stubborn so once I set my mind on something it takes natural disasters/ acts of God to change it and for once... this is a good thing!
I'll get there, just you watch me.
BLIMEY! My goodness, how tough and determined are you? The great thing about this programme is that there are people, like yourself, who couldn't even manage the 60 seconds (I was one of them) and we can still do this! I was mortified when i could only manage to run for 20 secs but I came here and they said no worries - just build up. So I did.
2lbs a week is perfect and your goal is definitely achievable if you just keep plugging away at this.
As you say, every run/walk/or in my case, comedy jog is progress!
Well done you!
Just keep plugging away. Keep walking, running, dancing, exercising - whatever. Just stay off the couch and keep moving☺ eating healthily is key to health and fitness, and combined with exercise, will see the weight shift quicker
It does take time though so you have to be patient, diligent and be a sticker. Cleaning up your diet is a forever thing but oh so worth it
Sounds as if you have made a brilliant start and are establishing a very positive pattern. My halfpenny worth is to apply the same patience to your running as you do to your weight loss. Most things worth doing take time. I find it has helped enormously to establish a routine of three runs a week and one or two gym sessions so even if - like life generally - my progress is not always neat and tidy ( this week I don't seem to be able to run as far as I did last week - probably because I have a bad cold) - at least I am enjoying the activity. I am on the cusp of week 9 (which is to say I have done two inadequate runs which count as runs but not for graduation). I still feel miles better than I did before I started two months or so ago. Keep at it and congrats of your progress so far.
Welcome to the C25K club. Keep posting and reading posts. I have found them extremely motivating and inspirational. So much better than Facebook!!
Sounds like you've made a brilliant start and such a positive attitude, wow! Good luck with the treadmill and resistance training and keep us updated!
well done with your progress and hats off to you for your determination . Slow and steady is the key to cracking this running lark. It is not about the speed it is about the time. I only understood this last week and I started C25K in January .
Happy Running
Well done great achievement. Keep going you will definitely get there.
Holy hell, girl, you've got grit and determination in spades! You're going to do just fine.
The good news is, you don't have to kill yourself. Learn to walk before you can run, its a big ask. You would be surprised if you do some good walk how many calories you can burn. You'll find running a bit easier once you're down a bit.
Well done you on making a start. That was the hardest step, so you are well on your way! I love your determination. Keep posting - we will love sharing your successes as well as being her for problems/advice. Welcome to the club! The program is a life changer...
Hi HanPan , just wanted to say welcome and to wish you all the very best !
I love your attitude and determination and this will stand you in good stead for the challenge ahead of you .
Please keep posting as we would love to hear how you're getting on and plus it will keep you focused .
Keep going , keep moving , we are all behind you and you've got off to a really good start ! Well done ! xxx
What a fabulous start you have made, I'm so impressed! Shin pain is often caused by not having good running shoes, so bear that in mind when you begin running outside again. This forum is great for keeping your morale up, if you feel you're flagging a bit, come and tell us about it and we'll help get you back on track. xx
You have come to the right place for support and inspiration. You are doing the right thing by countjng calories and getting your body moving. The weight will come off without a doubt. I know cos i am.Doing the same thing and it is happening. Calorie counting means you can count a treat jn every now and then which works for me. Have found thjough the running has encouraged me to eat the right things. I have given myself short term achievable goals which helps to motivate me. Also i do short byrst of running whenver i get the chance. Things like running to my car in the car park, running up stairs etc. My motto is why walk whenyou can run. I dont care how stupid i look because l feel great and like you i struggled at the start having never run in my life and i did the dreaded wk5r3 last wed and am now starting to consider thst i might just be a runner. Keep going !!!
you CAN do it, I helped my friend who was 20 stone do it and she graduated the programme. We took it really slowly and did each week twice. As we progressed her breathing improved and she felt so much better too. I would encourage you to walk as much as you can generally to help build your metabolism and overall fitness. Well done, you WILL get there
Just wanted to say well done, I am now on week 8 but have repeated a few weeks as I was struggling with the longer runs. You know what they say slow and steady wins the race
Hi Han Pan. As you'll have already gathered, you will get nothing but support and encouragement on this forum. Sometimes, starting to run makes you feel a misfit among the people you know and it's good to know you are not alone in your struggle. If you ever feel you need inspiration to continue your journey to fitness try watching this video. It moved me to tears. His story isn't your story by any means but it shows what willpower can achieve against all the odds. My favourite quote (and one you can apply to your C25K programme) is 'Just because I can't do it today, doesn't mean I won't be able to do it someday'
You display a great attitude and if you stick with it, you will never regret it, I am sure.
C25k works. Good luck.
Good luck with it! You've done really well so far! I've just done my first session today and managed three of the runs - hoping to complete an entire session before the week is out!
