New starter!

Hello everyone. I’ve been reading your posts for a couple of weeks now and felt I should stop being a stalker and join in. I started C25K two weeks ago with a friend, we have so far repeated week one instead of starting week 2 just to get ourselves ready for more. We are both 65, overweight and have under active thyroid issues, high cholesterol and high blood pressure so have decided to sort it out before it’s too late. However, neither of us has ever run before and we are finding ourselves wondering how on Earth we will ever progress from a 1 minute ‘shuffle’ 😂. I find all the posts on here very inspiring and motivating, thank you.

Brilliant. Well done. Slow and steady wins the race. There is no rush to complete the course take all the time you need. Better repeating a week and continuing on than getting discouraged if you move on to soon and give up.I'm a beginner too so know how you feel.

Good luck 🍀 🤗

Hello! Great that you have a friend with you. You can have a chat to keep your mind occupied and have someone on hand to encourage you.

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

Follow the link in the guide to the post about mental approach........it may help.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Well done on getting started. The only way you'll move on to week 2 is to move on to week 2 :) You CAN do it. Week 1 prepares you for week 2. It doesn't matter how slow you are going, in fact the slower the better. Take your courage in both hands and show yourselves just what you can do. Oh and have faith in the programme, it does work ;) xx

Fantastic, my experience was that waist size cholesterol and blood pressure went down, weight went up but that’s not smoking related, we are both 65 and been running a couple of years now

Well done for getting started

Shuffling round slowly is still a million times better than sitting on the couch doing nothing!

You’ll get there, it doesn’t matter how slowly

Good on you both. I thought 53 was a bit of a challenging age to start but we’re never too old. I’ve not found it easy but am mid week 8 now. My last run was demotivating as I really struggled but listening to others makes you just get on with it. You’ll have great dates and not so great days. It’s life changing, so stick with it and take it at your own pace, repeating weeks of you need to. As another person wrote, the only way to do week 2 is to do week 2. Good luck and we’ll done! Now I’d better get myself revved up to do a better run than my last 😊

Thanks so much for replying. Yes I imagine there will be good and bad days - well done for getting to week 8, I just can’t imagine doing that! I’m just back from a ‘shuffle’ - week two but a repeated week one. Currently 1 minute running seems more than enough 😂

I’m pleased to say I got over the mental block to get out again today. Still super hard but the satisfaction came back. Keep up the positive vibes.

Welcome! GPP - well done on starting the plan. Listen to your coach and just go for it. Trust in the programme as Each week prepares you for the next (even when you think that was hard I’m not ready, you are). 🙂 remember lots of water every day, stretch, warm up walk. I found extending warm up walk to 10 mins really helped me prepare for the longer run segments and with my breathing. Good luck on your journey - the rewards are so worth it.
