Running on my own post C25k

Well Thursday night was my first consolidation run since graduating. I was certainly in two minds whether to go out given the rain and the ridiculously strong winds, but with gritted teeth I decided to give it a go.

I knew it was going to be a bit strange but didn’t realise just how much I’d actually miss Mr Michael Johnson chirping in my ear from time to time with the usual little pep talk or minutes left reminder; it really did feel like this is really down to me now 😟.

Anyway, to say I was struggling after about 20 min is a bit of an understatement and I was a bit concerned that I was definitely missing my C25k crutch. After finishing my 30minutes, feeling totally wiped out and a bit disappointed actually, I consulted my running App for my performance stats and all became very clear why I was feeling so tired; TOO FAST!! My first mile was quick, or by my standards anyway, but the second was my fastest to date, the result of this was blatantly clear 🤣

It just goes to show that the advice and guidance you get during the initial 9 weeks still apply so much.

Keep it slow folks 👍

Well done Skel68! I missed Michael so much I carried on listening to him for a few weeks after graduation 😆. All the best with the next run! 👏🏼😀🏃‍♂️

Thanks for posting your post graduation run experience, I’ve got 2 weeks left before graduation and I’m now looking forward to what my consolidation runs will look like. It’s good to hear of others experiences good and bad. ☺️

Glad to hear it was of use, even with my occasional disappointments I remind myself the a few months ago I was struggling to run for 90 seconds 🤣🤣 oh how we forget. Good luck with your last 2 weeks, I’m sure you’ll smash it. 👍

Pacing without help is tricky. You did fine.

But yes, keep it slow :-)

Using Week 9 as part of Consolidation is allowed!!! It helps some people. I use an interval timer and listen to Spotify now (if the latter doesn't stop at 20 minutes GRRR.)

I'm 2 weeks post grad and it's taken a bit of time to settle and find what works for me. The Nike run club app has a lot of free guided runs that are like C25k in terms of encouragement, you can pick and choose by distance or time and it overlays your own music playlist.

Thanks Voldatort, I think the Nike App is something I’m definitely going to try while I figure out what suits me best 👍

You may need to try a few before you find what is right for you, some they waffle on too much, but some of the coaches on there are better than others.
