Well a week after graduating finally managed to do the first post grad run. Went out mid morning and it was hard.. too warm and I missed Michael and his lovely dulcet tone telling me to keep going & how long was left. Strangely though my time was okay and consistent with week 9 runs and I even bettered my best km time during a run. Think I was at about twenty minutes mark and struggling and a song by Avicii called silhouettes came on and words really resonated and spurred me on ππ½ββοΈππ»
But I have to admit I like having a program to follow and having a little encouragement now and again from someone other than my lovely and ever so patient husband!! I have downloaded bridge to 10K to try but wonder what fellow recent graduates are doing and how they are feeling now c25k is done?

Well done! I'm consolidating for a couple more weeks. Just half an hour three times a week. Am running alone until my sister recovers from a long bike ride. She can hardly walk! I go on holiday at the end of the month and will take my runners to Pembrokeshire. Then the aim is to increase time until we get to 5k. Then a park run. Then I'm not sure!!! 10k seems such a very long way!!!! Whatever you do, enjoy! I've loved my two post grad runs. No pressure now!! πππ
Think you have the right idea Ang ππ» I think Iβve set myself an impossible target of doing a half marathon in October and think itβs time to consolidate like you suggest and then try for a 10K in September. I want to enjoy my running without any pressure but still push a little each week.
Enjoy coming to π΄σ §σ ’σ ·σ ¬σ ³σ Ώ and I hope west wales is kind to you when ππ½ββοΈ. Keep us posted how your doing πππ» Xx
Hi Jo, I did my first post graduation run today too. Bit different for me as I didn't have a phone capable of using the app (Nokia Brick π) so did all the runs with an interval timer. It must feel quite different if you used the app all the way through.
Are you on the Bridge to 10k forum? I'm starting ju-ju's plan on Friday - there's no app just a written plan I think but lots of people are doing it and there are weekly posts where we can talk about the runs we're doing etc. I think it will really help me to stay focussed x
Oh Iβm jealous as my Nokia n94 was an amazing phone and wish I still had it πππ»
I have joined the forum yes but not posted anything. Iβm just peeking a look as feel like Iβve just joined big school from juniors plus conscious a lot less members so not so much chat and posts.
I did see JuJuβs posts but still not covering 5k Iβm around 4K so feel thatβs a bit beyond me yet but the b210k first run is 4x10 mins so thinking or hoping thatβs doable?!?!
Got a new smart phone on Friday mainly because the Army communicate via Whatsapp!?! Battery life is dreadful - my Nokia would go about 2 weeks without needing a charge π
I know what you mean about a plan - I'd never got this far without the structure of Couch25k. Lots of people do longer distances "slow and steady" so it might be worth checking with ju-ju about what sort of distance you need to be covering to follow her plan? x
Oh I remember those days!! It was indestructible and such a fab phone, youβve had good wear fair play ππ» Agree totally think the structure and a bit of ocd kicked in and I never wanted to not complete a run so that spurred me on. I may do what you say and check with Juju.. thank you π x
Iβve just started the second week of consolidation. Iβm doing my third run each week at 10% more, so 33 mins last week, 36 mins this week, 40 mins next week. That will take me close to 5k, perhaps cracking it the following week.
I will do Bridge to 10k but I am too far off regular 5ks to make that comfortable/possible for me yet. My aim is to do the Great Manchester 10k run next May (but I might manage a 10k before that).
Iβve stopped using the app and Iβm listening to Desert Island Disks episode podcasts which last about 45 mins. I donβt miss the coaching, my Apple Watch gives me a brief buzz at each KM and a big buzz for halfway.
I hope you find something that works for you. Keep on enjoying it!
Thanks Jay I think you have right idea. Iβve also
downloaded a few desert island discs now too off your recommendation!! I had previously listened to Fearne Cottons happy place ones and they were fab and took my mind off what I was doing. ππ» X
Oooh Jo, I can imagine Iβll be missing Michael too! I donβt want to think about that right now (Iβve quite a way to go) but it must be a great feeling to move on to consolidation.
Never really thought about Michael and I parting ways and perhaps weβll just stay on together after Week 9 graduation.....who knows? Or I might just try the other coaches on Week 9 if the App allows that.
Good luck to you on your graduation runs and please let us know how the move up to 10k goes if you decide to do it. β€οΈ
Oh I love that Iβm not alone in my MJ crush πππ» That voice is like velvet and Iβm sure Iβd do 5k in no time if he was with me πππ½ββοΈ Maybe we could start a petition to see if he could just do some more voiceovers whilst we wean ourselves off him β€οΈ As an aside Iβm sure someone posted before they were consolidating their running by repeating week 9 with each coach so think itβs doable ππ»
On a serious note though hope your weeks are going well and your enjoying it so far. Iβm sure you will smash this and I see we share the same big birthday next year π Iβm determined to change me before that and start off my fifth decade fitter and happier.
All the best with your running and Iβll keep an eye out for your future posts. Big cwtch xx
Well best wishes to you too! Iβll keep an eye out! Looking forward to the big 50! I think itβs quite an achievement! And if weβre fit too?? Well, what can we say, but woooh hoooo! ππβ€οΈ
