Week 1 run 2

so I used to be able to comfortably run 3k in 12 mins and a mile in under 6 mins but fast forward 5 years and boy have I let it go.

I’m hoping I can push myself to get back to this goal but right now it feels so far away.

Has anyone else been in a similar position where they used to be quite capable and let it go but got back to where they were?

Anyway love to hear from anyone who’s at my stage now or with any advice

Welcome to the forum and well done on your decision.

As we age we have to accept that we are unlikely to be able to perform at the same level as in the past and trying to recreate those feats is highly likely to result in injury. That doesn't mean that you cannot rebuild your running fitness and ability by following a gently progressive training plan, such as C25K.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

I think many of us can say “we used to do ... and now we can’t” Unfortunately that comes with age 😪

I try not to look back at what I could do, I try to look forward at what I hope I will do 👍🏻 And the more I do, the more my goal posts are moving 🙈 (I wanted to do 5k when I started, now I’m looking at 10k after completion because I have the running bug)

Not what you're looking for?
