Week 5 run 1

Well I wasn’t looking forward to this week but the 3 x 5 mins were actually okay. Does anyone else struggle with the first few minutes? I swear it takes me the first run to settle in and I often feel quite uncomfortable but after that feel fine. In fact I feel myself just letting go and enjoying the music and thinking about other things now rather than panicking about the run which is what I used to do. 😳😳😳 8mins next !!!🤢🤢🤢

it takes me a while to settle in too and find my head space where I want to be (instead of thinking about each step and how many more there are to do :D)

Week 5 is a good one, you feel much more confident once you've done it, so enjoy it!

I feel the same as you, takes me 5 mins to settle into the breathing and I feel like I can’t do it and then I feel fine. I’ve just done w5r3, 20 mins without stopping, was hard but so chuffed with myself for doing it! Slow and steady wins the race 😁

That's the Toxic 10 minutes and we have an FAQ all about it:

Essentially Sue, when you start running your body isn't prepared for the amount of oxygen it needs. From just after you run up until 5 - 10 minutes, your body isn't getting enough oxygen to restore the amount lost when you started running, and you're still running. Your brain realises this, so your bpm rises and at about 10 minutes you'll start breathing deeper as your brain gets your body to restore what it needs. When it recovers what's lost and you're breathing enough to give your body what it needs, your bpm drops a bit and it takes a lot less effort to move and your breathing should lighten a bit.

It's part of the reason why we warm up, it let's the body know we're moving so it has more time to balance out what we need before we start running. Unfortunately our brain can't just start us breathing more deeply when we get out the front door, it really should know what we're about to do 😅

I hope this made sense

The first few minutes of every run still take a bit of getting used to and i'm on W7 now. I think with plenty of runs under our belt we will find it easier and easier. Week 5 is a great week, I really enjoyed the variation and the glorious W5R3! Amazing, I hope you love it too x
