Third run of the week, done and a 5km PB! Did it in 33.52min at average pace 6.46km/min. I think I could safely put this down to a gazelle run this morning 🦌 🦌 So happy with that!
Sunday morning alarm (can't remember the last time I set an alarm on a Sunday - let alone, an alarm to go for a run lol) so up early but after various faffing and delaying tactics, I set off at 8am, fairly mild (mistake wearing the long sleeve running top, hey ho) and into some faint drizzle, felt ok.. 80's club classics on. Let's see how this run goes..
The 'toxic 10' passed and I felt good, picked up my pace a bit when I got overtaken by a couple of runners and knew I was running faster than my norm but I felt ok so pressed on not far behind the runners ahead, resisting all urges to speed up and overtake them ...damn that competitive spirit, it's what got me in trouble before with injuries 🤪...let the runners go but kept my pace. I held steady and motored on, it was about half way into the run I realised things were going well and I wasn't feeling at all sluggish or tired - THIS WAS GOOD!!!!! Might this be a gazelle run in the offing?? That spurred me on and I did chuckle to myself as I added in a few mini gazelle leaps 🦌 🦌 🤣
I added in a bit more in the last few mins or so, really pushed on and 5km was up, checked my watch and realised it was a PB 💪🏻Yessss! I felt good, not massively out of breath or exhausted. Finally think my improved fitness is showing and I'm keeping up with the pace of 3 runs a week and improving my time. Really noticing the changes now especially to my own confidence, which is a great feeling, knowing all the hard work is now reaping rewards. Resting those niggles I had with a couple of extra days rest between runs and dropping to x2 runs a week last week seems to have helped, too. It just goes to show, you put the work in consistently, you start to see the benefits! Yahoo 😀
👍🏻 Happy running today lovely runners!

Get in! 🦌🦌 Well done R4UL, a great run and a cracking pace. Its good to read about a gazelle, run when everything seems to come together 👍💪🙌 that’s awesome.
Like you said you listened to your body and gave it the rest it needed and now you’re back to firing on all cylinders 🎉🎉
Thanks SD 👍🏻 Today it just felt like it all came together. I’m learning to cherish these fleeting gazelle runs when they occur and try to look at how/why they happen as we all know about the meh runs and I want less of those now!
Galloping Gazelles- what a great run!! 🦌🦌 It feels good when you’ve had a run you’ve enjoyed and hit a PB as a bonus. You’ve run a fast pace there-my PB is 36mins for 5K and even then, my heart rate must surely be in the heart attack zone! 🥵 well done!
Thanks 😊 Have felt quite a boost today after my run: I can up the pace when I put my mind to it and more importantly, I seem to be getting the fitness now to do it. Just need to keep steady and not get carried away and injure myself doing too much too soon!! The heart rate thing is interesting. Are you monitoring it on every run? I’ve started to check my average BPM HR, today it was 149 BPM. Last week, it was 157 BPM. But today I was faster.. Hmmm 🤔
Hey, that was some run, there was me thinking my average pace 7.55/km was pretty good yesterday! 🤣 i had quite a few runners go past me too, dont get that on my evening runs. Anyway, you seem to be flying at the moment, what's your plan, 60 mins/10k 🤔
We all have our good and bad paces. I had a good day today, after a slow disappointing run last week, I was determined to up my game a bit today 💪🏼 I’m really not sure what next but I think I’ll continue consolidating for a while yet to embed the regular running before heading over to the Bridge to 10k to see if I’m up for a new challenge. I think I might be as I do like a plan and a challenge! 😀 What is your plan?
For some reason, i run faster in daylight 🤔, not sure why, maybe have more energy, not having worked. I was thinking about the 60 min magic plan, or might just do 2×30 min, and a 5k, for another week or so, it's nice to mix it up, depending on how I feel, and what's going on at home! Still sometimes cant believe, how far we've come, with this running stuff!!! 🤣
Thanks! Yes, I need to be mindful of listening to my body more and watching out for niggles that can develop into an injury. I feel like my patience has paid off a bit today 😊
