Should have gone out last night but cried off so only 2 runs last week. I know, I know....
Beautiful day here today and decided to combine the first dog walk of the day with my run. I was a bit apprehensive as tried this before and George and Tilly just get way too excited and think it's all a big game - 'wow our human is running, she wants to play' π
Managed to get poop and scoop out of the way during the 5 minute warm up so I thought we were on to a good thing.π€
Lots of other dog walkers about today though and that can be problematic in itself - leads on/leads off and nervous walkers with no dogs π€¦ββοΈ
Anyway as the dogs were in tow today I decided to use one of our usual walking trails for my run. Not my bestest plan I have to admit as had no idea what I could manage. I do have some inclines on my road runs but nothing to make me sweat.
Oh boy was I in for it today. When you're regularly walking dogs you don't pay much attention to inclines so I thought I'd manage just fine. Nope!
The inclines were pushing me to really dig in so I found myself struggling early on with breathing and rhythm and just about everything.
Okay - think - what to do! Just give up and walk? Nope I didn't want to do that. Decided to set myself little markers and push on but when really really floundering, jog on the spot if possible or walk during the really tough inclines...
In the end I did 3.28 miles (just over 5km) in 53 minutes of mostly running, interspersed with moments of having no choice but to dig in and plough up hills walking as fast as I could manage. Cleeve Hill is no joke! Coming back home was a bit easier and I was grateful. Definitely feel like I've worked some extra muscles today.
Pheweee!
I actually prefer trail running if I'm honest over road running. I have to kick my own arse and work harder but I somehow enjoyed it more and it went quicker. Didn't feel so monotonous πͺ
Talking of trail running - did anyone see on Countryfile I I think it was last night, the guy in his 80's who does the fell running? Honestly, if that guy can do it at his age then I've no excuse. What a total legend!!
Well I'm now cream crackered folks so late lunch and off to get a haircut in prep for my interview this week.
Good on you keeping it up. I tried running this afternoon but I have had the lurgy and got to 5 minutes and felt like sleeping. Will give it another go tomorrow for my run 5. I hate being ill as it always feels like a struggle to get back at it! You have inspired me to keep going though...Good luck with the job interview!
I know how that feels. I think I was a bit low on Saturday too.
Look at you Burkey46 an evolving developing fully fledged runner π, I venture between trail and tarmac, it works well for me, I don't mind the grind of the tarmac miles but........ They can get same-ish on the trails, that variety is brill, and it keeps you thinking and alert and I find the hills more enjoyable. But I can't run with Sid ( spaniel) he'd simply get under my feet so his walks are separate πββοΈ+πΆπΎ= π€.
Country file downloaded for tonight in work β
Hope that short back and sides with the scissors turns out ok, and heck if it goes wrong π it'll grow back π.....
Not many sleeps till your 80th

Cheeky ππ
Yep I'm not sure runs with my two are ever a good idea, too many other things to keep thinking about and more chance of twisting an ankle with them two on my runs!
The hair looks divine by the way. Just got to impress the new potential bosses and I'll be one happy chick this week ππ€

Yaaaaaaaay it's a happy haircut day in that case Burkey46, if the potential bosses have any sense you're hired π as Mr Sugar says π
Well done for keeping going Hidden That looks a little like my local Parkrun course in Croydon, but clearly it's nowhere near there.! I know a lot of the runners run with dogs which is great to see. The dogs are always enthusiastic, even if they don't understand the concept of turning at corners!πΆπΎ
I think trail running is great fun, but I haven't found anywhere local to mum's house (where I'm staying) which I can run round, other than a field which may or may not be accessible to the general public. I haven't got my trail shoes with me either so I'll stick to running the mean streets of Bognor for nowπ I don't give myself targets for trail runs in terms of distance or time, it will just take what it takes and it always gives me a sense of achievement when I'm finished.π
I saw the chap on Countryfile - amazing! If I can run at all when I get to his age I'll be very pleased, but I can't see myself fell running any time soon.
Hope the haircut goes well and very best of luck with the job interview later in the week!
I think you're right about not having targets on trail runs. It doesn't work the same as when road running. It takes all my effort anyway just to stay upright and not fall into a rabbit hole or slip on a pile of you know what!!
Well done Burkey, very brave with George and Tilly, an accomplished multi-taster ! - perhaps you should slot that in your interview along with you determination and loyalty to the programmeβΊοΈ. There is no way I could handle running with the pooch, she is a working cocker spaniel and gets too distracted, so hubby has to come along to control her π.
I must admit I prefer trails to road running, I think it works my gluts more too , so says my hubby π. I just feel itβs more of a work out π€·π»ββοΈ.
Super well done on the 5k too ! Didnβt catch country file was tucking in to a stew... got the fire going, nice glass of red, papers and Michael Palin documentary.
Wishing you lots of luck for your interview this week, donβt forget to interview them too, ask questions. Itβs important that you will feel comfortable working with them as much as them with you.... sorry will take my HR hat off now. Go and dazzle ππ»βΊοΈ
Interesting point: I was told by the woman doing my gait analysis that a lot of serious runners walk up steep inclines anyway...so go you! She lives locally, so was giving some suggestions for routes when I graduate from jogging on the flat π
Iβve started putting inclines into my recovery walks to prepare π¬
Anyway, also, Wales is going into a full lockdown from Friday...exercise as much as you want, but from home...no driving...so Sunday Iβll be doing that road run that nearly did for me on W9R1 π±
Anyway...sounds like a brilliant run, well done! Hope the hair looks fab and good luck with the interview π€π
Well done Burkey46, Iβve never tried trail running, you got through that run by sheer determination by the sound of it. Good idea to set yourself markers so you broke it down into sections. Iβve tried running with our dog but heβs a bit young and keeps crossing over in front of me, I think heβll love it when he gets older though π
Trails are good fun, you just need to be more focused and there's more risk of injury I guess but something nice about being out there in the wild π
I love trails though itβs usually 50/50 on my runs here. Itβs a bit wet through the long grass early morning so the road segment helps dry me out a bit.
