First trail run

Pouring down with rain this morning but decided to do a run up to the Canon Hill burial ground, no idea why! Anyway got up to the mound and felt quite good, ran back down the hill, a bit slippery and lots of tree roots, everything great until the first uphill section after the main hill, my legs felt like lead! Pushed on, had to stop a couple of times but ended up doing 4K in just over 30 minutes, so pretty slow but pleased with it overall. When I got home my new trail running shoes arrived, so I guess I’ll be repeating it next week.

Thanks PHDgran I've looked at the hoka's the speedgoat range look quite cumbersome items but I imagine they need and provide more cushioning where required 🤔

I think Speedgoat are support as well, Stinson are for a neutral runner and as they are all terrain probably not quite as chunky as speedgoat. Hoka’s are very light though, when these arrived I thought they had forgotten to put them in the box!

Well done. In awe of this as I’m reluctant to leave the pavements. How did you choose your route? 🌸😊🌸

I’m really lucky just 300 yards to the entrance to Canon Hill plantation, there are main tracks that are about 10-12 feet wide but also you can take other tracks into the forest, yesterday I followed a path I have often walked but never run before, it’s quite steep in places but not so far into the wilds that you could get lost. I worried about meeting other people on the narrower tracks but it is quite easy to step into the trees so obviously not somewhere to build up speed but perfect for my slow plod? In the end I only met one other person/dog and easily negotiated. Only problem was my Brooks Ghost runners were not really suitable and ankles took a bit of a pounding but I have my new Hoka ATRs for the next time. I’ve realised that I am really not built for speed and this way I can combine my love of hill walking and running x
