Hi, the best way to get the correct Running shoes for you would be to have a gait analysis done at a specialist running shop so they can advice you !
What is right for one person may be totally wrong for someone else
Do you need any right now or are you feeling the limitations of what you are in now?
A few things to bear in mind... what surface are you running on? If you are not mostly pounding pavements and hard surfaces (and there are many good reasons to avoid doing so if you have that option) you're looking at trail running shoes and a gait analysis will not inform the selection of those.
The worst shoes I've run in were the most expensive, professionally fitted after a gait analysis... but the ones the same chap supplied after that were great.
I started C25K in lightweight walking boots. About half way through the programme I decided to treat myself to running shoes and because I was looking for something a bit less of an ethical and environmental nightmare, by chance I ended up with minimalist shoes which it turns out I love - I do much better if I can feel the ground cf having great cushions under me or something rigid. You'll hear a lot of fuss and bothering about transitioning if you go for minimalist/zero drop/barefoot shoes but I am not sure that is relevant if you are just starting out running.
Even now I will run in my (barefoot) walking boots, or my (Keen) active sandals on occasion. Wellies and knee high smart boots are rubbish though! (No injuries so far in 8 years of running)
Not sure that helps much!
When i first started i had a pair of Adidas Terrex Agravic Tr Gore-Tex Trail. I brought them half price because the new style was coming out, Paid about £40. They were great but got a bit tired so needed replacing. Since then i replaced them with a pair of Asics Gel Veture for about £80. Decathlon have a good selection.
I stated on a pair of £5 ‘trainers’ from Sainsbury’s! I quickly decided I needed some proper shoes but didn’t want to spend much money on gait analysis or shoes in case I didn’t stick with the running (sadly I have past history of not sticking with things!). It was during lockdown so I had to go online anyway. I found
a good website
which sells a large range of shoes and they always have some shoes in the sale which are the previous year’s styles, or colours that weren’t popular. They have a 100 day return policy so you could wear them in the house for a while to see what you think. I ordered 3 or 4 different styles, in two different sizes each! The service is super quick. Returns was very straightforward- Hermes courier collection. It was £3 but tbh I didn’t mind paying that as it was good value for the amount of shoes I was returning.
Please read this FAQ post about buying shoes healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and don't pay any attention to anyone's recommended shoe.........what works for them may be wholly unsuitable for you.
What's your budget?
