Whatever makes you feel good. Sometimes music (whatever is your favourite music), sometimes podcast (if that's your thing), sometimes nothing, sometimes bits of music and then nothing. One thing is certain, never rigidly stick to something 'because other people recommend it'. Always do your own thing, be flexible and change. Or else you'll grow frustrated and bored stiff.
When I was employed by a large American corporation, we had monthly ‘Town Hall’ calls when the Vice Presidents would bang on for an hour. I’d go out for a run and join the call with Skype. It was a valuable use of my time, I reckon.
I just pick music that I really like and use Spotify. But now and again I change the music so not to get bored 😊😊
I have different music playlists for different types of runs, fast, slow, medium or I'll just put a single artist on and sing along 👍🏻😁
People always look amused or confused as I run past singing I'm slim shady, yes, I'm the real shady 🤣🤣🤣
I like science podcasts....but, I am a bit of a freak 😆😆
Whilst doing C25K I would listen to music to keep my mind occupied with the App running in the background. I ran most of this in parks and round fields so it was ideal. However once winter came and I found myself having to run roads in the dark I ditched the headphones for safety reasons and have never really got back into wearing them or listening to music.
I'm currently running local trails and love to hear the natural sounds of the wildlife.
When I started I always listened to music on shuffle but sometimes it would only play slow music and I found myself trying to change it whilst running which wasn’t ideal. I’ve recently changed to listening to podcasts which I find much better as I get totally engrossed in it and the time flies by. I listen to The Archers Omnibus and I love Dr. Phil, Phil In The Blanks as he interviews a famous person for an hour, just the right amount of time for me. Oprah Winfrey Super Soul Conversations. Experts on Experts is the one I’m currently listening to which is an American actor interviewing the author David Sidaris. The Neuromantics is another download but I haven’t started listening to it yet but I’m sure it will be very interesting but as someone has previously said, each to their own. Whatever keeps your legs moving and your brain distracted is what’s best for you x
Nothing any more! I did use music to distract from the pain (!) but now I listen to the sounds of the countryside, pay attention to my breathing and posture, and really have to listen out for traffic.
As I start running I start my Garmin, Spotify play list, Couch 25 and Map my route!!!! Talk about multitasking....
RockMyRun! Does what it says on the box! I don’t need to know my splits, the time for each km that I run. Largely because I generally run just about 4 km, 3 times a week. Today I was running to music from a very young Cliff and his contemporaries. I can choose from a very wide range of music, carefully merged, so no blank spaces. Choose a music style or a beats per minute speed to run to. Offers both. There’s a quick interruption after each 20 minutes inviting me to pay to stop hearing her.
I get a map of where I ran, average pace, distance and duration, total steps, SPM -steps/minute? and calories burned! This runs happily on my iPhone. Just one thing to start and stop. Rock your Run! Have fun!
Rock my Run is a really great free app. I just relive my yoof, playing the oldies, remembering all the things that happened when the tunes were top of the pops. Seems a lot easier than some folks are doing. Start a watch, start your running instructions, start your music etc. No . Fast or slow music? Motown or rock? 70’s, 80’s, 90’s or just 160 beats per minute.
Press the button and we are off. Took a long time to get round to it. I tried Strava and several others before settling for something so simple yet so satisfying. Have fun.
Originally I thought I was being clever and made a “running playlist” on my phone, but I soon got either bored or frustrated with the beat being incompatible with my pace. Switched to radio 4 drama podcasts, that I never had time to listen to at home. Then recently my phone decided to play ( I didn’t ask it to!) some of my tai chi music, and that was lovely, it has no definite beat or rhythm to follow. I did finish week 9 with the original running playlist as I couldn’t download the podcasts in France, and I was inspired by: the monkees- I’m a believer, don’t stop believing (glee) happy ending (Mika) it ain’t what you do it’s the way that you do it (bananarama) and Shine “ you’re such a big star to me” (take that). Loved it. Listen to the words, it really made me smile!
