W7R2 - Lotions, potions and a sweaty run!

β€’19 Replies

Since Monday's run, I've had a little niggle on the inside of my left knee. Went to bed last night a bit concerned that I'd have to postpone today's run and give myself another day....

It wasn't painful, just a bit tender and I felt the need to give it a bit of a rub on and off so I knew it was something πŸ€”

Anyway last night I remembered I had some white tiger balm and wondered if it might help just to massage a bit in. I'd gotten it as a gift ages ago, along with some tiger balm patches and other bits and bobs, from some Thai female Air Traffic Controllers who'd been studying here (where I work). They swear by this stuff so I thought what the heck, nothing to lose and I couldn't think what else I could do...

So I slathered my knee in this stuff and went to bed. You don't feel it immediately but after about half an hour it starts to kick in and things get quite tingly!!

This morning I woke late. Knee felt better but I wasn't 100% convinced I should run. Last thing I want is an injury when I'm so close to finishing!

Anyway I got dressed in my running gear and gave myself a strict talking to. I decided I'd do a good warm up, see how that felt and then if all was okay, I'd head out, but also telling myself that if I had any noticeable twinges then I would stop running and walk home.

Did the warm up and decided I'm going for it.

I ummmmed and arrrghed about the route and off I went. The brisk walk warm up was fine so I let myself fall into a really gentle jog. I was sorry I had slept through the alarm because it was already heating up in the morning sun and I could feel myself getting a sweat on! πŸ₯΅πŸ₯΅

I zig zagged down to the racecourse looking for all of the available shady spots and before I knew it I was half way done. By then though the heat was on and I was feeling a bit drained, earlier than usual. I slowed things right down and reminded myself I did this twice before and just needed to watch my pace, even more so in the heat!

Definitely a bit of a slog but I still did it and I'm glad I went out because my niggly knee seems to have resolved itself for now....

I'm paying way more attention to my body now which is good, running has given me a new found respect for what my body can do but also reminds me when not to push it.

I put this picture on this morning because it really hit home just how far I've come in 7 weeks. When I look at that distance I feel quite proud!!

Good luck to all the week 7 club heading out this week and anyone else with a run coming up.

Remember to hydrate properly in this warm weather 😊πŸ’ͺπŸ’¦

Congratulations on completing the run!!

Sounds like your self-care is improving and looking after yourself is just as important as running.

Being able to do the run in relative comfort shows how far you’ve come. To run the first 12 1/2 minutes without suffering too much discomfort is real progress. Sounds like you’ve silenced your demons!

I ran in the warm weather yesterday and it feels really good working up a sweat. Makes me feel like I’ve done a proper workout and provides a great excuse for a coffee and croissant after!

Well done. You’re nearly there!

I'm just treating myself to a grill, need some protein in the form of a tasty sausage and some bacon with a nice poached egg 😁πŸ’ͺ

I think I'll be a much better winter runner as I don't do well in the heat! Hate my hair sticking to me, puts me in a grump!!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Mmm breakfast sounds good! I don't mind the cold, it's the rain I can't bear. I''ll be back on the treadmill once it starts raining I think.

Yay πŸ˜€ well done πŸ‘πŸ‘ so glad your knee was ok, I’d slap some more magic potion on it today as well!

Thankfully it’s cooled right down over here, I find it such a slog in the heat too and those 🀬 pieces of hair that work loose drives me nuts too πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Only one more run and you’ll be on W8....that sounds good doesn’t it πŸ˜†

😁😁 still can't quite believe that week 8 is nearly here Cazza!! It's flown by and I'm so glad I committed to it. It's a bit of a game changer for me in lots of ways!

Well done!

I’m finding I’m more conscious about how my legs are feeling...especially when I’m walking on recovery days.

Today just slightly achey inner thighs...which I’ve had since I started. Amazingly my knees have held up so far...and (tmi) my pelvic floor 😊

I’ll be out early (for me) on Friday for W6R3!

β€’ in reply toLottieMW

Oh Lottie, do you know that was my biggest fear starting this programme, my pelvic floor πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ something I've had issues with for a long time....I was dreading starting running for obvious reasons. Strangely though, no issues to report, I don't know if the running is working some magic or what's helping but that issue isn't a problem at the moment. I'm sure a trampoline might tell me otherwise.....

I'm surprised my knees haven't objected before now, given that I'm overweight, so this week has just been a reminder to keep going gently and to opt for softer ground where possible. X
