Stepping Stones Beat Run!

Well, nowster, I tried your Stepping Stones run to the beat podcast this morning, and I don't know whether to thank you or punch you!🀣

It was definitely challenging. That short, fast steps thing could not have been more different from my usual long, slow, loping strides, and it took some getting used to. There were times, I admit, when I thought it might be OK to stop and finish the run in my usual slow lope, but I kicked myself in the butt and carried on. I'm sure I lost the beat at times, but Laura, bless her, kept popping in to remind me and I picked it up again.

Not kidding, it was HARD. But in the great tradition of C25K, hard but done means I can do it! And I did, and honestly it's exactly what I need. Though all that counting 1,2,3,4 might do my head in lol.

Upshot? I ran 3.67 k, and shaved 2 minutes off my usual time without trying to go faster. Wow. Who'd have thunk it???

Definitely going to do this one again.

Sounds interesting and well done to you for sticking to it. Another different way to mix up your runs and give you ideas πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Shaving 2 minutes of your usual time? Wow! πŸ‘

Only because I'm so slow usually lol.

Haha, well, it’s shown you that you can run faster if you choose to! You may not choose to. But what you could try is to do a faster run like that once a week, and the other 2 at your happy pace - maybe gradually extending the time of one of those slower runs to work up to an hour.

Oops, no, it was Phoenix Rise.

Apologies, just checked. So that's who I need to punch...πŸ˜…πŸ€£

🀭😈 Please don’t punch me!

Brilliant run though, well done! I didn’t complete this the first time. I had to adapt and add in some walking intervals so really excellent work! I might do Speed myself later this morning if this will make you feel better and stop me from getting a πŸ₯Š πŸ˜‚

Haha, yes, it's all your fault.

Though now I've recovered and looking at it from the sanctuary of the hot tub, it was a great suggestion!

Phew 😌 I’m sure everything seems a great suggestion from the sanctuary of that hot tub! πŸ€—

The interval runs are great!

Slow loping strides you say? Hmmm... if you can make a change to shorter quicker strides, that will be better (safer) for you in the longer term.

Have a look at this:

I'm working on it!

Ooh sounds interesting x so what is Th e purpose of that particular stepping stones podcast? Was it a speed thing??

Scout37 profile image
Scout37Graduateβ€’ in reply to

There are 3 podcasts, one specifically focuses on speed. This one just moves you on from C25K, but certainly improved my speed!

β€’ in reply toScout37

Oh not just yet for me then x I am so happy to be able to run for the 30, I am looking forward to doing that the 3 more times and then I will look to see if it’s my cup of tea x can you use your own music with it? I have YouTube premium and my own run playlists x

Oh and I can’t run 5k? Does that matter? X

Not in the slightest.

Found here: nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/c...

And also consider downloading the Nike Run app which seems to be popular with many graduates here.

β€’ in reply toJohn_W

Thanks I’m glad it’s not a firm eligibility criteria! I’m only 3.72km after 30 mins on av x I have the Nike app I dnld it last night all ready! X

I’ve just started using stepping stones too. I found the second time much better than the first. πŸ˜„

Good to hear! I had no idea what was coming, yes it was tough but like all of this journey it was doable if I pushed myself. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right?
