Feeling out of practice -W6R1

I’ve had a week’s break from running due to my daughter having a sleep regression and taking all evening to sleep and night awakenings. She went down better today so off I went.

This felt harder than the last epic run. Maybe because I had the break and felt noticeably less fit, maybe because I started off a bit too fast. Run 1 felt like really hard work even though only 5 mins, so did run 2. Run 3 felt better, I managed to pace myself better so I wasn’t getting so out of breath.

Felt much stiffer afterwards too, muscles were aching when stretching. Amazing one week off can make such a difference. Hopefully I’ll be able to get out for the next one again soon and rebuild my fitness.

Well done for getting back out there! Great achievement to keep going after some one off. Dynamic stretches will help with the stiffness. I found my butt cheeks aching so much after W6 runs 😳🙈

Hi, I think you will get back to feeling fit quite quick. It was only 1 week off, so it should not make you loose fitness really.

I would probably say it was maybe lack of regular sleep and general rest, that made you feel like you lost your vibe. You will rebuild x

Well done for completing the run! Some runs feel harder than others and you have reasons for it. Sometimes it just happens. But you’re back in the game! You shouldn’t suffer from loss of fitness until 2 weeks. You still did the run do you can move on! You can do it!

I should think it's the lack of sleep that affected you more than the week off. I agree with Wobbles that some more stretching might help. Especially some dynamic stretches as part of your warm-up before a run, and maybe 10-15 minutes of stretching or yoga on your non run days will help you to relax. Lack of sleep is horrible, you are allowed to be kind to yourself 💐🍰☕

Your body already did this exercise before, so it will remember everything. Just give it a few days to keep up the previous pace.
