Well, I went out a few hours ago and successfully completed my first run of week 6 but boy oh boy did I struggle...probably more than I've struggled so far on the whole plan!
I started off with my confidence sky high after successfully completing run 3 of week 5 on Monday, but after today it's taken a bit of a bashing I can tell you. I'm not too sure if it was because around 50% of my route today was going slightly uphill or maybe I subconciously decided to run quicker than I actually needed to. There are no massive hills where I run, but part of my route is going uphill a little in places (just when I'm running it seems!)
Anyway, despite the inclines and the *very* heavy legs, I did manage to plop one leg in front of the other enough to complete the whole run, so I now have two more rest days I will move onto run 2 on Sunday. I do seem to recover quickly now though, so that's good.

Yeah, some of those inclines are *really* tough but after my run I'm glad I did them as like you say there is a pay back...I'm sure it's making my muscles stronger by doing them as apposed to just running on level ground...as long as I don't collapse in a heap in the process!
I've heard that before about week 6 - the main thing is that you got through it and as Laura says finishing when you are tired is when you are building fitness. Sue
Thanks Von99 . Yeah, I think I did the wrong thing and went into that last run with too much confidence and went quicker on the first section than I should've done.
Well done. Its odd how some week are so scary and yet we can be so complacent with others. I'd been looking forward at Week 6 R1 and felt after Week 5 r3, it wouldn't be so hard. Well done though for keeping going
Cheers mate. Yeah, like I said, I think I had too much confidence after completing that 'big' run 3 of week 5 and I shot off running too quickly on the first section.
So, I've learned a lesson as I nearly failed to complete what should've been a relatively, straightforward and simple run. I just hope that you and anyone else approaching week 6 remembers this and don't end up making the same mistake!
I'm going to try w5r3 tomorrow, so being a step or two behind you, I'm really impressed with your achievement so far. I think you're doing really well and to hear that you recover quickly shows that your fitness is great. Keep up the good work!
Well done Flossie22 . Now make sure you don't get ahead of yourself on w6r1 and go too quick like I did! (I only just about completed it, yet on paper it looks far easier).
Well done i found week 6 hard going & i thought after the 20mins it would get easierπ!! Mind you I remember how worried you were about week5run 3 & you smashed it !! Keep going you are doing gretaπππ
Yes, you're right. I dreaded that run 3 of week 5. So, after completing it successfully I really believed that week 6 was going to be a doddle. What a mistake! Mind you, that's exactly how we all learn isn't it?
Aye you right there! I keep expecting every new run to become easy or easier!! Every one a challenge ha ha!! π mind you there is one thing getting easier & it's great!! That is getting out there to start the runππ I come straight from work & change in to my running gear & off I go.... Ok after first 5 mins wish I was done but at least we are still out there rather than "couch potatoes"πππkeep on going I probably started before you but didn't pluck up the courage to join the forum incase I didn't stick it out!! Still here though 2 more runs to go...ππ see you at your graduation! π
You're right there, it doesn't matter how long it takes so long we are out there doing something (even if that takes ages as well!) because that is far better for our health than lounging on a couch!
I know you're flying along ahead of me and you are almost there at graduation, so I'm trying my best to hang on to your tail!!
Just got back from W6 R1. Sooo disappointed that I struggled after feeling really comfortable W5 R3. Then I find this post. Just what I needed to make me feel better. Thanks for sharing! My route is fairly hilly and today I hit all the uphill sections when running. Aaagh. Also..not able to moderate my speed to help. If I go any slower I shall stop. However, recovery really quick. I suspect I'm probably better now if I walk less and keep.in a rhythm. Peculiarly looking forward to W6 R2 to see what happens. Keep on running π
