Found it hard to motivate but I did it, I ran 5K in 34 mins again! I can’t honestly see myself running any further as I personally feel that 5K 3 x per week is enough for an old bird but that said, I need to make sure I do actually get out and do it!!!
Still so pleased I completed C25K and I feel so much better in myself because of it (not to mention the 9lb I’ve now lost (bearing in mind I eat a share bag of chocolate most nights 😂) so all in all I’m very pleased!

That’s amazing! 5k 3 times a week and a 5k in 34 mins is fabulous! Much better than I’m managing! I’m an ‘old bird’ too and have only managed 1 x 5k so far and that took me over 39 mins so hats off to you!
Thanks! Yes I am, would like to get down to 30 mins so will probably focus on speed instead of distance, but we’ll see. If I went any quicker I’m not sure I could breathe! 😂
Thanks! I did think about that but I’m so intent on getting my 5 in under 30! I had to have another challenge other than increasing my distance as I’m still not finding it easy! I do struggle at the beginning and again around 2.3K so even increasing my speed at the moment isn’t a thing. But I WILL persevere as I’m determined! I’ve come this far and I’m not going back!!! 💪🏼
If you read the guide to post C25k running healthunlocked.com/couchto5... you will find teh advice that to get faster you need to spend up to 80% of your running time at an easy conversational pace, to build the stamina you need to push hard in the remainder or your running.
Running flat out all the time is the sign of a rookie runner.
Wow! I’m on my 5th cons run tomorrow, trying to do 2x 30 mins and a 5k in a week. Managed 38 and 36 mins for 5k, don’t think I’ll be seeing your pace for quite a while!
Oh wow that’s great! I think to be doing 5K is good never mind the time!!! There are times when I’m running that I know I’ve slowed down so I’m sure I could do better but I’m just really happy to be reaching 5K - I’d never have thought that a few months ago!!! 🎉
That’s fantastic well done, 3x5k a week in 34 mins is amazing 🏃🏽♀️💪🏻
I’m sure you will get to the 30min mark in no time.
I’ve found it so hard to keep motivated and I’ve only run 3 times since graduating 2 weeks ago 🙈
But after hitting the 5k I feel like I’ve got the bug again.
I’m gonna try to stick to 2-3 5ks a week, I’m the same as you I’m not sure if I can possibly run faster or further or where the speed or distance would come from, but I did say that 10wks ago when I couldn’t run the length of myself 😂😂😂😂
Well done!! Great goal to have!! I graduated at the end of May and that was about my time- I cut 2 mins off it 6 weeks later accidentally as part of a 6k run, so you can deffo get down to 30!! I am also getting on in age ha ha!! I am now concentrating on the 10k distance. Like you I never thought I would do more than 5k but I have to say the longer slow runs are now my favourite!! When I have completed the 10k plan in a few weeks that 5k in 30 is also my next goal😀
If you are on strava come and join some of us lockdown grads- link below- we are a very mixed bunch spurring each other on beyond graduation- open to all!! I am Julia on there 😀Best of luck with your 5k in 30💪💪💪
Ah thank you, sadly I’m not on Strava so still rely on this community at the moment, who incidentally have been amazing! Good luck with reaching the 10K goal, I admire you!! 💪🏼
