Lost my mojo

Here I am for the second time. I completed the program back in April. Felt great and very pleased with myself. Picked up a foot injury on a 30 minute shuffle (my version of running) Saw a podiatrist, had a gait analysis, bought new trainers, rested for 6/7 weeks, then started on the program again. I'm on week 6 run 3 for the second time this week. I stopped a minute short last week, so repeated the run this morning. It was hard going. I seemed to have lost my mojo and stamina. The first time round, I was so fired up and enthusiastic, but now, I don't know what's going on. Any hints or tips much appreciated.

Slow down..........

Can you speak aloud, clear, ungasping sentences as you run?.........if not, you are going too fast.

Slowing down to the recommended easy conversational pace makes it more achievable and for most, more enjoyable.

Have a look on YouTube at Japanese slow jogging. It’s a great technique if you find you’re struggling 😊

Thank you, I'll have a look at that

Welcome back. Glad the injury is better.

Yep go slow go very slow is my best advice too. The whole point I have discovered is just to keep moving as the coaches say. Not fast, no speed merchants for me (at 62 and v overweight I think not!).

As for mojo well I focus on how I’ll feel at the end of each run if I do it and compare to how I’ll feel if I don’t. I know which gives the better sense of wellbeing, satisfaction and achievement. But am also very compassionate with myself and kind to myself. I try not to berate myself if I miss a run or it’s really hard.

All this is easier said than done but as with the running practice makes better.

Good luck with it all. I am sure you can do it again. 👍

I've decided to keep repeating week 6 run 3 til I feel I've nailed it. It's true that I feel great once I'm back home 😄 My speed is just a bit more of a fast walk, sadly. I'll keep pushing on though. I do feel pleased with myself, some days

Sounds like a good plan. Don’t worry about speed a fast walk speed is still a great achievement. A little out of breath (but still able to talk) is fantastic for our health and wellbeing. So be proud of yourself and have a pat on the back from one 60+ to another. We are awesome 😎

Thank you for the words of encouragement. I know I'm lucky to be able to do this, in these weird times

Did you start right back at week 1?

I did week 1 run 1. It's was to easy, so moved onto week 3 run 3, then week 4 and carried on from there. While I'm out I keep thinking to myself, I've done this before, I can do it again. It just seems harder this time round. I love the feeling once I'm home though, so will keep plodding on just for that

I tried the same initially when I was coming back from injury.

It didn't work I didn't have the stamina. So I redid the whole thing.

Yes it was easier, especially the early weeks, but I needed to build up again.

Worth thinking about 😶
