Hi everyone! Well, here I am! First post ahead of first run. This is going to be so hard so I am hoping this community will help! I am 42 years old and 22 stone. Needless to say I need to make some life changes and I really want to. I have been walking since lockdown and have decided to take the next step to help me get fit and lose weight - hence C25k. But I am scared beyond belief! I will be going out in half an hour to try the first run, wish me luck!
Day 1 and scared!!!: Hi everyone! Well, here I... - Couch to 5K
Day 1 and scared!!!
Don't be scared, take it slow and steady! Good luck
I was more scared of how my body and healthwere going downhill and how miserable my old age-or untimely death- would be if I didn't do something to improve the odds, so as unlikely as it seemed (as impossible as it seemed, to be more accurate I "gave it a go" and followed the programme and great advice on the Forum.
Literally - the wisest decision I ever made, and one of the most fulfilling adventures I've ever been on
Just do it one day at a time, don't worry about "5k" or 'time", see how it goes and enjoy the new experience
Wishing you many happy miles in your future
Welcome to the forum and well done on your decision.
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.
Enjoy your journey.
Best of luck. Programme is designed for people like us. Take it slow - one run at a time.
Good luck dude, hope you smash it!
Did it!!! Have a very sweaty head now! Am very happy to have got round. Nearly backed out on the 3rd stint from the end but got there. I have treated myself to a Running watch to see how I get on, just for interest really - I know I will never break any records - and was amazed to see I covered nearly 3k all in all. Amazing! Thanks for the support everyone!
Fantastic! Well done 🎉that’s the hardest 1 done 👏Onwards to wonderful proud achievements and having that fantastic feel good factor if though you’ve worn yourself out sometimes! The program is magic 🤩Enjoy 🏃♀️🏃remember always go slowly ( comes naturally to me🐌😂) you don’t want to hurt yourself just finish whenever in 1 piece injury free . This is an amazing group to be part of 🙏👏
I hope you’re reading this message after a great first run. I’m in a similar position to you. I’m 41 (42 this year) and started at 123kg (I’ve lost 3kg so far)
My first run I could hardly breath, one because I’m so unfit, but more than that was excruciating, heart stopping embarrassment. I’m noW on week 3 and things have definitely gotten easier. The physical exertion is still tough, but I really don’t care what anyone thinks now. I waddle along at the slowest run pace known to man and when I finish each run I strut out of that park like a tomato coloured goddess.
You are awesome for starting this, your body is stronger than you think, and you can do this 👍🏻
Wow! Well done you! And thanks for the message - I am indeed reading having done the run and had a much needed shower! Feels excellent to have done it. I know I need to change more than just the odd jog (definitely not ‘run’!) to lose the weight but I love knowing that I will wake up tomorrow healthier than today! Baby steps! Good luck on your journey too!
How did it go?
I got round! I’d call it a plod rather than a run but I did it! Chose routes to avoid other people. Was pretty tough at the end but I got there. Am going to enjoy a rest day tomorrow knowing I can actually justify it now! Thanks for the message.
