Week 4 Run 1

Wow. That will teach me for gadding off like an Olympic Marathon runner! The last 5 minute run I was only just jogging but I did it. What is odd is that despite that it still didn’t feel as painful as the last runs of Week 1 & 2, were I was screwing my face up in agony. I’m not saying I could have carried on much further, but I still felt there was a little left.

Glad you got this one out of the way relatively early... it’s all about learning and you paid the price for the speedy start... it’s so much easier the other way around! Great work out there bringing it back under control to get the job done! You’re stronger and fitter at each start line, and even on a run like this you’re seeing that... all very positive. Enjoy run 2... with a more relaxed start 🤣

"were I was screwing my face up in agony."

Oh dear.

Suggest you forget the word 'run' and start thinking about 'JOG' instead. You should aim to finish each running segment feeling like you could carry on. So... nice and easy, nice and relaxed. Your breathing is not strained at all. You can talk quite comfortably - a 'conversational' or 'chatty' pace. Feeling like it's almost no effort at all.

Watch this and use it as a reference for the rest of the program:

Thanks! Yep, I happened on this after Week 2 and it really helped. Week 3 was really enjoyable and knowing that this run was the hardest of week 4, I’m positive that it will be the same. Actually starting to feel like a runner now!

You'll find the further you run, the easier it gets! Runs are broken into 3 sections; hell, cruise and fatigue. Hell is your body warming up. Cruise is when it feels good or ok at least. Fatigue is when it starts to feel like you are running through treacle. It is the same for everyone. The idea is to increase your cruise distance. Hell never goes away but fatigue does when you continuously keep running the same distance. Just don't go too fast at the start else you'll pay later... Good runnings.

Well done, I found at the end of the final run I was ok but a bit before that I had been struggling - just finished week 4 today so looking forward to week 5 on Saturday!

Well done, keep going but always stuck to a slow pace especially with the longer runs coming up! 🐌 good luck!
