Welcome aboard this amazing forum.
Well done on the first step! Stay calm, hydrate well every day and go steady. If you stay consistent you will do it.
Thank you looking forward to it I think 😅
Welcome 😀
Great first step starting here, you’ll find lots of helpful posts with valuable info on all kinds of things.
Welcome. We will be your support system. The Mantra of the forum is go slow, very slow. Your best friend will be your inner tortoise 🐢or if that’s too fast your inner snail 🐌. You maybe interested in Japanese Slow Running if you find running to much.

Fantastic, that's a great start, deciding to do it and signing up on here. Have a good read of the beginner's guide, it will be your bible! Hydrate really well, that's key. Japanese slow running has already been mentioned, there's a link to it in the beginner's guide, it helped me immensely after I'd completely failed at my W1R1 and thought I was a lost cause (I found my inner 🐌 and am now on W8R3 next!) I felt just like you, I didn't want to feel rubbish and unfit anymore and now I don't! The buzz I get from running is something I had not expected, but is the best feeling. I made a pact with myself a while ago that I was going to enjoy running, I started it as a necessity to get fit so decided I might as well enjoy it! As the runs got longer I started listening to great music and I run in a beautiful area and always feel grateful for the wildlife I see on the way. I always smile at people as I go past them too and often that smile stays on my face because I'm so grateful to my body for being able to do this, at the age of almost 48, with a lifetime of it being neglected!
So put those running shoes on and get out there, you have everything to gain and nothing to lose. You're about to embark on a wonderful journey where you will constantly amaze yourself. I'm going to follow you on here too because I can't wait to here all about your journey 😀
I have seen folks encouraging you to go slow and they are absolutely right! The Japanese slow jog was an amazing revelation to me and changed the way I feel towards this challenge. I found the first two weeks the most difficult until I adopted the go slow approach. I’m now on week six! I’m nearly 58 and have a pacemaker. Keep on keeping on; we will do this!
I’m very similar to you, I’m 63, never run before in my life and also go to SlimmingWorld with a stone to go to reach my target. I signed up to the program at the beginning of lockdown, never really believing that I could do it, but last week I did my final run. I’ve found it really hard all the way through but feel so proud of myself and I’ve astonished my family and friends who, like me, never saw me as a runner. I’m determined to keep it up as it was such a struggle to get to this point. I never made it to 5k, my best distance was 3.5k but that doesn’t seem to be uncommon. Good luck with the program, you can do it!
