I am new to this app. I started the C25K 3 weeks ago to loose weight and get fit. I haven’t lost any weight but my fitness has improved. I did W3R2 this morning and I’m really enjoying it.

Welcome and great job so far... some of the hardest runs of the programme are behind you now. Fitness is rising sharply and will continue to do so. Conditioning will build muscle, and also slow or kill any weight loss. Great that you’re enjoying the running, it’s going to help the weight loss even if by itself it doesn’t deliver it.

Forget the scales for a minute... get a tape measure and measure everywhere that you want to become smaller. That can happen without weight loss... and does often.

There’s an old saying that you can not outrun a bad diet. If you’re looking to lose a couple of pounds then running will do it after some initial gain or plateau of weight. If you’re looking to lose more than that, you need to change the nutritional aspect of your fitness journey. Many diets don’t give you enough calories and produce fast initial weight loss that stops or becomes difficult to maintain. Losing weight slowly is the way to go for your future.

Check out Weight Loss NHS on here, they will point you towards the online NHS BMI calculator and it will give you a calorie range to eat daily... aim for the high end of that and keep moving.

When the scales show 0 loss, measure yourself and you’ll see the bigger picture.

Enjoy your journey.

Hi Letty,

Most people don't lose weight on C25K as not enough calories are burned to make much of a difference but you will definitely lose inches - everything becomes smaller and firmer. I suggest getting the measuring tape out and checking the difference in 4 weeks time. Great that your fitness is noticeably improving. you're doing great!!

Everything becomes smaller and firmer? That's a mixed blessing for male runners :p

😂😂😂 does that mean your trainers get flashier and flashier?

😱

Its early days to see any effect on your weight but if you keep at it and enjoy some healthy eating alongside you will definitely see some results on the scales and in your body shape and probably even more importantly, the way you feel in the longer term. Keep going, and keep enjoying it.

Hello I think the weight loss will come gradually as I had done 4 months of brisk walking 6 days a week and watched what I was eating and lost 2 stone. That is when I took up c25k and the weights still coming off so keep going 😊😊😊

That’s brilliant. I need to loose about 1 stone. I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been. I’ll hopefully get there with diet and exercise.

I lost inches rather than weight! And that was really positive for me. Be happy you are achieving it and enjoying it. That’s the most important thing. Well done and keep it up! 😀

I did week 3 run 3 today and felt great, week 3 run 2 I found really hard, just goes to show how your body can change in just a few days. I’m repeating runs if I feel I need to and am finding that progressing at my own pace is making it more enjoyable. Good luck on your journey xx
