Hi, just saying hello. I found this place yesterday just after the second run of week one.

I'm a 39 year old bloke who's overweight, drinks too much, eats too much rubbish and didn't do enough exercise. I had a diagnosis of high blood pressure last November and am now on medication for it. I had a partial medial menisectomy 2.5 weeks ago on my left knee, and just decided now was the time to do something before I die too young.

Monday was my first run in about 20 years, and I loved it, I wanted to go again but my legs didn't. I'm surprised at how addictive it felt straight away!

I did 2.24 miles yesterday at 14 minutes per mile, I was shattered after that but there was a significant elevation change in that one yesterday.

Anyway, I've found this place to be excellent for advice and support, so I'll be sticking round here for a while and updating you if you're interested.

Hello and welcome. Well done for taking the step to a new life of running! Follow the programme, take your rest days, and take it slowly and you will build up your stamina over time. We love to follow how everyone is getting on and there is plenty of advice and encouragement on the forum to help you on your way.

Hello and welcome to the forum! You have made a great change of lifestyle choice by starting the programme.

Remember slow and steady whilst you build running strength and stamina, particularly important post surgery.

Let us know how it goes and good luck!

Welcome... good for you, getting started on this brilliant programme ! You are on the right path for being the person you clearly want to be !

The forum follows NHS C25K..

... and there is so much support and advice on here, you will hardly believe it...! Plus we totally rock!

Slow and steady is the mantra, so at this stage forget speed or distance !!! Take your est days without fail and extra exercise on those days is very useful... just not running..many of used the NHS strength and Flex alongside the C25K plan :)

Keep posting... success and setbacks ( if you have any.. we never use the 'f' word on here..) :)

You will get so much support and reading other folks posts too is inspiring.. lots of Newbies just starting too, so you get the benefit of their posts as well !

Looking forward to your next run post... go for it !!!

Well done you !! That's brilliant

You've done the hardest bit, starting, so it all easy from now on, NOT 😜 I'm 51 year old woman and never in a million years did I think I could run but I've just come back from my first run of week 4 and it was great 👍 Good Luck and Happy Running 🏃

Follow the programme, slow jogging only! It's great! 😃

Healthy eats and drinks. Ditch the junk from your house! I mean it., get rid., Cut it out 😃💪🏃✔️👍 Do these things and you'll be glad you did

If you don't you won't😔

Welcome Girth and well done ! Again just like all the other advice ,just take it slow and steady and listen to Laura all the while. With your determination and Laura's voice you will get there. Myself I am 59 and used to run years ago, then stopped. But started running with the C25K and found that the structure of it was a massive help as well as all of the great support that there is here. After all we were all at the beginning of C25K at one time🤔🤔

Most of all just take care and enjoy!😄😄

Happy running!

Thanks everyone, I'm using the BBC app, listening to Michael Johnson.

Yesterday was bloody hard, I think I just went too fast to begin with. But a PB is something to aim at isn't it?

I'm wanting to go again today though, I'll just settle for a couple of miles with the dog today!

Hi Girth! Well done for getting started! It's so important to go slow & steady to avoid injury. The programme is excellent at slowly building up your muscles & PBs are not really relevant until you are running greater distances like 5k. I've got bits missing in my right knee from skiing when I was 17 (now 46) & have had the odd twinge but sometimes take 2 rest days now. Gentle knee strengthening exercises are good - you don't want another one op so take it easy! Good luck & enjoy!
