C25k treadmill?
Yep, me! Just injured myself on week 4 though....gutted 😩
Yep, I'm a big fan of the treadmill. Don't have my own, but the ones in my gym are great Planning to get back in the groove and rerun the program now that my gym's opening up this week.
Play around with the speed to find the one you're comfortable with. Don't go too fast. That was my biggest mistake. My legs couldn't keep up And don't worry about setting an incline. It doesn't make any difference unless you're moving lightning fast.
Yes me! Now on week 8 run 2. I used to run outside and on treadmill quite a few years back, but health issues got in the way so I stopped running (I was in my fifties!). I'm nearly 66 now and feeling better healthwise so decided to dust off the treadmill and take advantage of the lockdown to get back into it. The health benefits are obvious after just a couple of weeks i felt so much better. Treadmill running for me is kinder on the joints as long as you warm up properly and stretch afterwards (I do a few stretches before too) you'll avoid injuries. I listen to some running tracks and really enjoy my running albeit not the fastest (4k distance at the moment in the total run), I'm so glad I restarted my running , whatever your preference run outside or on a treadmill you'll benefit either way, go for it!
I am just starting on Week 9 and all of my runs (bar W7 R3 and W8 R3) have been on a treadmill. It has worked really well and built my confidence enough to attempt running outside. Good luck! 🙂
Yes I did it all on the treadmill and found that as you can regulate your pace it wasn’t too bad. Started my consolidation runs about 4 weeks ago and 2 runs in the treadmill decided it didn’t want to work anymore 😭. Anyway that was my cue to get outside. Found outside much tougher, couldn’t run as far/fast so quite demoralising at first but progressed fairly quickly. I was actually beginning to enjoy it more than the treadmill until I injured my Achilles and now I have to rest up, so annoying, but hope to get back to it in a week or so?!
Good luck on your journey - it is definitely worth it, whether you choose the treadmill or outdoors.
My only comment is if you change treadmills check the settings! Before mine at home died I was using 5.5km/h for the walk and 8/9km/h for the runs - went to a hotel gym and wondered why it seemed so much harder. Turned out the numbers were in miles per hour not kilometres 😂
It is very different outside though, find it a bit harder to pace myself. Still enjoyable though.
Yes! Just finished the program completely on a treadmill in the garage. Obviously the scenery isnt as good but I liked been able to count down the minutes and have little increases in speed. I am continuing with my 30 min runs and wondering if I should venture outside.
Hi Ruby_Ru
I completed the programme on treadmill found it gave less impact on knees and ankles.
Did find when I went outside I was running faster than treadmill said I was.
Keep it up and don’t go out until your ready or want to
I have been mainly using a treadmill, currently on week 4. It gave me the confidence to try running outside at week 3 which is a lot tougher but I adapted after a couple of runs ad repeated week 3 outdoors. At the moment I really enjoy the treadmill, there are lots of treadmill scenery videos on youtube, I have run round the Disney parks in Florida, along the coast in Italy and through London all from home. Also there is Zwift on the iPad, you attach a little pod to your trainer and your virtual avatar runs along with ther people from around the world on your iPad / Apple TV at the same speed as you are going on the treadmill.
Yes. I started at the beginning of lockdown on our treadmill, for several reasons. We have one in the spare room and where I live on a busy road it’s not really suitable for running. So I graduated about 2 weeks ago and, while I know it is very different to running on the road, I still feel an enormous sense of achievement and am now running 40minutes every other day. In the long term once all this is over and I am back at school (I’m a teacher in NI so not til September) running on the treadmill is something I am going to be able to continue. At the end of March I could barely do 60 seconds. Now I’m doing 40 mins which is 3k for me.
Yes Yes another treadmiller here - now doing consolidation runs and like Ali above feel a great sense of achievement and definitely much fitter and stronger legs!- I like to be close to home for a few different reasons and I haven't tried outside running yet as I live in Italy and I've been shielding - kind of looking forward to it but I know in any case the treadmill will keep me going.
Yes I’m treadmill running too since the start of the programme, I’m on wk 7 with R2 tomorrow morning. I like to fall out of bed on a morning quick change and on the treadmill before starting work. It starts my day off. I’m hoping as I start to return going into the office I can keep it up. Tomorrow will be the test first day back in the office but I am determined not to miss my run in the morning too. It isn’t as scenic but works for me 👍
Hello all, sorry I've not replied to your responses. Thanks for the encouragement. Will give the treadmill a go to build up my confidence. Had a few days off due to being unwell. Back on tomorrow I'm hoping.
