C25K on Treadmill is it harder ?

I’ve restarted C25K on the treadmill I have done it out doors and indoors I find on treadmill it’s easier as pace and flatness but I find I need to have an urgh to go faster or my legs kill ? Is that weird ?

I’m down 60 lbs but still need to lose 50 lbs maybe if I was at Goal my legs wouldn’t hurt so badly any thoughts ?

Well done on your amazing progress!

Calorie wise you will burn the same inside as outside for a given effort. You might find that running outside you are slower than on the treadmill even though you feel the same effort, don't worry though you will be burning the same calories just measure time instead of distance.

The only reason I would recommend outside is that way you may begin to just love running, and become addicted to it.

I will run outside when I can run lol it’s very very hilly where I live I live in a road called Lake Hill so I am early of my fitness level isn’t out that. Thankyou

Well done on your weight loss. I’m in same boat as you. I was 21 stone and lost 4 stone then put 2 on then lost another 3 and put 1 on! I was 17 when I started c25k and ran everything on treadmill, mainly Bec I began in October and weather was yuk! I found transition to outside quite difficult and would advise you to put the incline up and down during the longer runs. Anything from 1-3 and then 0.

I think both in and out have their adv. treadmill running can be boring even with headphones on. Have you downloaded the podcasts? They have music too and are brill. Good luck and keep going with your weightloss journey and running journey. Sadly 30 mins of running only burns about 259 cals! ☹️ I have now built in an extra run and go to 3 boot camps per week in an attempt to shift the pounds. I’ve toned up but still weigh in at 16st. My goal is a healthy 11-12st coz I’m tall. So I feel your pain. My legs killed too then at wk7 or wk8 they stopped.

Good luck xxx

Thankyou and well done on your achievements I also walk 6-8 miles nearly every day I do 2 Zumba classes a week at the sports centre and I’m starting martial combat which is martial arts cardio execise I also don’t drive and have to walk everywhere so I do burn a lot calories

I think it’s simply just learning to run and that’s hard lol just my legs hurt badly and that’s the hardest bit atm. Thankyou xx

Well done you! What a transformation! I found that I had aches too but they've eased. I'm not sure what to suggest other than making sure you cool down properly, maybe some dynamic stretches after your run and potentially some self massage? And remember to take your rest days. (Maybe one of the graduates or mentors could have some suggestions.) Don't forget to check/recheck the beginners guide, there could also be aome useful information in there.

Good luck! I look forward to reading your running adventures! X

Yes very true Thankyou will look at all this I do think your right xx

Congrats on your progress.

I'm also doing the program on a treadmill. When I started, it really was a struggle to run (I'm unfit), then around weeks 3-4, I started to feel that my running style wasn't comfortable. I was running too slow and needed to up the speed just a little to make sure that I was running with a comfortable posture and not twisting my body. It's just a thought that maybe it's a similar thing for you - a little bit faster is your natural speed and your legs move better, hence less pain.

Ahhh thanks yes I think your right as slow is so much harder. Well done to you 👌

Hi,

60lbs lost is huge, it takes determination, discipline and commitment. Let’s celebrate that right now... not many people can stick to a plan and do that. Very well done

If you were at your goal weight there would be less impact in each step, this is true... so do we quit? I don’t think you have quit in you. So, we need to lessen the impact... the treadmill is a great start there... softer surfaces help. Good running shoes will help massively too, so if you haven’t already done so, a trip to your local specialist running store for gait analysis would be the best move. Keep those feet landing flat and under your body... concentrate to not let heel or toe contact first... nice gentle full foot down. It’s possible to run at a good cadence without hitting the ground hard, or lifting the feet much... this will take some practice. Up the treadmill from walking until you are forced into a run... then you may be able to slow down and still be running... cadence is better than letting the stride lengthen right now. So, that’s the impact down bit.

Next we need to cross train smart... strengthening exercises for feet, ankles, knees and core will develop the joints to take the remaining impact and use it to get stronger.

In your pictures, there’s obviously a big difference in weight... but it’s more than that. The new you looks so strong... I think you can achieve anything. The 50 lbs will come, and you’ll run 30 minutes... and I want to see the results then... you’re amazing... you can hit all your goals. Stay strong.

Wow Thankyou that the nicest things anyone has said to me about losing weight. I just want to get fit and be a runner so I will do as you say. The only thing is where I live there’s no shops for runners sadly it’s veru limited I’d have to go to the mainland then I’m not sure what town or city I’d need to go to then ? I’ll

have to google it. Thanks again 💜🦋

This could be good for you then... online gait analysis!

sportsshoes.com/gait-analysis/

If they can tell you at least which type of shoe you need... you can go somewhere else to try them on... maybe these guys can help with trying multiple pairs on too.
