Hi All
Can I use my treadmill to complete this challenge?
Of course. Though running outside is nicer but I do both, as can be a fair weather runner. 👟
So far I've completed week 5 day 1 on a treadmill in the gym. It suits me at the moment. At somepoint I will venture outside I'm training for a 5k fun run. I just want to be able to do it lol. I worry about my pace etc, but actually this program works well for me.
I am worried about that and I know you're right it will probably feel like going back to week 1. So next week I'm planning on doing the parkrun and see how I go xx
Thanks for the replies. I used to road run but if I'm honest I hate doing it in the light evenings as you get idiots that find it fun to beep at you 😠 which completely puts me off. So my treadmill will hopefully be my best friend through the summer.
Idiots don't deserve consideration and you shouldn't let them influence your life...
Anyway, if you want to run on a treadmill, I think somewhere in the forum I read you should set it at a 1% incline if you want to keep the intensity of your workout at a similar level of your outdoor runs.
Happy running, wherever you choose to run (though it would be a pity to do it inside, especially in this season IMHO)
I've done all of mine on the treadmill, so they'd better count. I think at some point I'll go outside, but until then I'm good in the gym.
I think it is really a case of 'if you must', better than not doing it at all - there are benefits of running which you don't get on a treadmill and almost (but not quite) invariably people doing the programme get hung up at some point on speed because you can't completely ignore it the way you can and mostly should running outside.
If you want inspiration there's a recent post from our Beijing correspondent...
I would just get the program done, don't worry about pace or distance. They come with time, just enjoy the journey.
I did the whole program on the treadmill and continue to run on it. I haven't run outside in years, but I can compare my progress from W1R1 to today (3 weeks post graduation) on the treadmill and yes, it works and counts.
Just completed day 1 of week 1 ☺
Running is running so yes you can. I did most of the programme on the treadmill but outside is SOOO much nicer. When you do run outside, run very very slowly. Most people make the mistake of running too quickly outside and then tire quickly.
