4.5k...: ....and I'm still gaining weight! I'm... - Couch to 5K
4.5k...
Congratulations on running almost 5 Kilometres despite being 129k. 😊 🏃🏾 👍
You can't blame the running........
Great running. Sounds like a few tweaks to your nutrition are needed. Increasing the protein and/or fat proportion of your diet may be a big help as a) they fill you for longer than carbs, and b) they take more energy to break down so you burn some of the calories that they contain. You’ll achieve all your goals in time... and your fitness level is above the average now.
Yes I understand - I'll have to start tracking what I eat...and thank you for the fitness thing!
This happened to me for a while, you should take measurements. My leg and thigh muscles are still getting bigger, there is a lot of mass there but my waist, hips and chest are all shrinking gradually, It's definitely a long game but its working.
I also use Myfitnesspal to log calorie intake, it's very good and if you are honest with it you can gain some good insights on where you might be going wrong. I'm on 2200 calories a day which is a pretty generous allowance, combined with exercise the weight comes off gradually.
Thanks Tim!
Garmin, Myfitnesspal and Strava all work well together as well, If you do a run it can be set to increase your calorie budget for the day. 2200 Calories per day is a fair bit, I changed my breakfast and lunch so they are still filling but a lot less bread (my achilles heel) I still have a big meal in the evening and a few beers or Vodka and Soda and can easily keep within my budget.
Hi Enxo I bought a Garmin fitness watch and subscribe to myfitnesspal so that I can link the 2 apps together. It really works for me and I have definitely changed my eating habits. When you track your calories it really changed my mind set when having a little treat that would take me over my calorie target. I have recently changed to reducing my carb intake as mentioned above. So far I have steadily lost 3kg in 6 weeks.
Combining both the running and healthy eating will really make the difference. Keeping up the running and make some changes to your diet and you will get there.
I'm (reluctantly) taking this all onboard...I'm terrible at calorie counting but will do my best...
Hi Enxo, I am doing 'Noom' (Google it) it's an app that focuses on the psychology of why and when we eat, keeps a log of your food intake and provides an analysis, supposed to help create new healthy habits. After 2 weeks I have lost 2.2kg
They often run a free trial so you can try it and see if it works for you (requires daily input)
Might be an option to consider alongside all the other excellent recommendations.
Well done 4.5k 👏
Thanks! Not much in your bio but I guess you're a new starter?
I am, just completed Wk5 R1 this morning, it was really comfortable which surprised me. I repeated wk4 twice before moving on as my knees became so painful I couldn't kneel.
I was having just 1 rest day in-between runs and have increased to 2 days, this has made such a difference. I am carrying an extra 20kg which I am sure is not helping. Hoping that Noom will help me retrain my brain so that this time I keep the weight off.
Great work! Imagine carrying an extra 50kg! That's what I need to lose to hit my target BMI ! What larks! Anyway, I go slooowwww! Could never have imagined running for 50minutes let alone 5 at Wk1. R1 on the C25K!
Extra rest days are an excellent idea -in fact I use them all the time now I run for 4.5km. 2 more runs this week and then I'll hit the magical 5km! JUst worked out it will have taken 15 weeks of blood sweat and tears to get there!
Anyway, take it easy and good luck!
I thank you...
