Well this morning I set out for the first run of week 6, with all the advice from this forum ringing in my ears. It’s notorious as ‘it’s one to catch you out’ and I couldn’t work out why. I understand now. With the elation of completing a 20 minute run at the end of week 5, once you hear that voice in your head saying you only have a 5 minute run to start with, then the temptation is there to up the pace.
I definitely felt I was going a bit too fast in the first minute or so, and deliberately slowed myself down. It’s just a steady pace you need, especially with an 8 minute and 5 minute run to come.
I actually ended up running my furthest distance- 4.5 km (including the warm up walk and half of the warm down walk- as I reached home before the end of 5 minutes), even though actual running time is 2 minutes less than at the end of week 5.
I’ve found a nice route that I think I’ll stick to until the end of the programme. It’ll be interesting to see if the route suits when the runs increase to 25 minutes and upwards.
Thanks for all the positive comments on this forum. They do keep you going. Looking forward to the 2x10 mins runs on Monday morning now!
