Japanese Slow Running after injury

On my last run I over did it and now have something called Pes Anserine Bursitis- basically like tendinitis on the inner side of the knee. It’s been bothering me a bit the whole time but previously was always ok by the next run. Week 7 run 1 put paid to that!! Yesterday I was still limping but today managed a slow dog walk. I am wondering whether to give Japanese Slow running a go in a week or so just so I can complete the last 2 weeks. Anyone tried it with a sore knee?

The impact will be a lot less for sure, and it’s more than an acceptable way of running this plan. Have you been doing some strengthening work alongside C25K? It’s not all about knee exercises either... some issues come from weaknesses in other parts of the body... ankle, knee, thigh, glute, core and a little upper body work is the way to go.

Here’s hoping you’re pain free next week... rest well.

Thank you! apart from a bit of cycling - maybe 15 miles a week- and a lot of fast dog walking- I do nothing. I have found the exercises I need to strengthen my legs- I just find them really boring!! But I know I need to do them! I am hoping the slow running might get me to the end😀

I’m pretty much the same... can’t say I really enjoy any exercise where I don’t travel anywhere, but I do have to do them! I had painful knees for 30 years... this summer will mark 2 years of them being pain free.

Wow!!!! That’s fantastic!! How much do you run now? Do you do any other sport?

I’ve been running 2 years and am up to 5 days a week as my norm. Currently I’m “only“ going to 5k, but I did get that to 13.1 miles last November for my half marathon. I’m following a running plan again now and it will get me to 11 miles as I look to have a go at my 10k PB in October.

No other sport for me... I do all the exercises from Strength and flex, some Nike Training Club workouts and am also using the FitOn app at the moment. I was planning on getting some cycling going this spring, but this lockdown has put paid to that as routes I’d have wanted to use had been effectively closed, and are now a little full of walkers and runners for me to get started, so that will be my winter mission I think.

Oh wow, it’s wonderful how much you clearly enjoy running!! I expect your running gear wardrobe is a bit like my cycling one- that’s been my main sport for the past few years, but having achieved some pretty big goals I thought I would give running a go as a new challenge!! Best of luck for your 10k PB😀😀
