Hey friends just a quick question. Is Japanese slow running considered jogging in reference to completing the couch to 5K? I do feel a bit of a wolly when doing it.
Thanks

Hey Maxi80. Ignore your feelings of wallydome ( I had them too!) I’m a fellow Japanese slow runner and am just in from WK8 R2 ( 28 mins) finding out about slow running has allowed to get thus far. Wk 1 R1 I couldn’t even run for 60 secs. From one 🐌 to another 🐌 ... keep at it! ☺️
Yes, it absolutely does count
DiscoRunner did all of C25K with Japanese slow running. I haven't seen her around for a while but she was a big proponent of Japanese slow running
I might give it a whirl. It’s the happy medium I’m looking for. Walking is lovely but it’s not for this challenge and jogging kills my legs. So it seems like the perfect condiment!
It’s ok! Reading your post made me think of “slow and steady wins the race”. This isn’t about racing at the moment, it’s about getting out and keeping going - getting your mind and body used to the movement and momentum. Speed will come in time. You’re running! Well done!🌞

Strangely, we call it Japanese Slow Jogging around these parts. But some folks still can't help themselves and refer to it as 'slow running'.
FORGET the idea of 'running' - it conjures up images, associations, with speed. Gives people the wrong idea.
For a beginner setting out on C25K, 'JOGGING' is where it's at. Forget about how it looks.
Hello, you're still here asking questions, that's good, we haven't lost you yet then 🤣
Glad you're hanging around, must mean you're still keen to keep going 🏃♀️💪
Going so slowly is why I'm on week 9, would have given up long ago otherwise
You just need to find your comfortable slow pace and really not worry about how you look or how you think people are thinking how you look 😊
Slow really is the way forward. When I started I thought running was a lot faster than what I now do. The key really is can you hold a proper conversation whilst moving, if not, you are going to fast. Once I conquered that and got over my running is fast idea, it has meant I have achieved way more than I thought possible at the start. Have recently discovered that classic reggae beat is my running pace lol. But it all works as I'm on week 7 and managing 25 mins without having an asthma attack or my legs giving up. Plus sometimes with a steady pace you are actually covering more distance than you realise.
You know, I really don't like that word jogging! Running is running, whatever your speed. I'm doing a heart rate based plan, it has me running at not much faster than walking pace for some of it, but by golly - I'm running, and enjoying it too!
Do what ever works for you...
Hi Max also felt a bit stupid doing the Japanese style shuffle but who cares. Actually feels a bit like cheating but it's enabling me to keep going to the end (I'm sure of that now) and to get the benefits yayy
Cheating ? Who made that rule? There are no running police and you're doing exactly the right thing. Better to take it slowly and graduate with no injuries than risk shin splints, burnout and any number of other things. Worry about speed later, if ever (personally, I find it overrated). As long as you take both feet off the ground during your stride, you are running. Good luck. 👍
You're right and thanks for your support. I need that sometimes it really helps 😊
