Week 5 R3, more of a struggle...

Morning All

So I attempted R3 of week 5 yesterday, the first 20 minute run. It was also my first run outside. Unfortunately I didn't manage to run the full 20 minutes in one go. I'm now looking at week 6, and I see the first run is broken down a little, I'm just wondering whether to restart week 5 or attempt week 6 and see how it goes?

What are peoples thoughts?

Well done on your progress.

If you don't fully complete any run then you need to redo it after a rest day. This is a training plan building your stamina, not a tick box exercise. No need to do the whole week.

You made things difficult for your self making that run your first one outdoors as learning to pace yourself is a tricky skill for those transitioning from treadmill.

Just keep your pace down.......the only requirement is that you complete the duration, no need for speed.

It was a bit of a change from running inside.

I will re try that run tomorrow, thanks for the advice.

What made you unable to complete it?

It was the pain in my leg, it seemed quite bad for the first ten minutes, but then fir the last ten minutes it was fine

Do you stretch after every run, as recommended in the guide to the plan? It can help avoid carrying tensions into the next run and improves recovery.

To begin with I wasnt, but after week 2 I was also doing the stretches after the run.

I need to buy some decent running shoes as I've read that can help and I've been using my normal trainers until I moved further through the programme.
