Well week 5 run 2 and I failed!!!
Achieved the first 8minute run then the 5min walk then got 6 1/2 minutes into second 8minute run and I had to walk for 20-30seconds. Finished the last 60seconds of it but I failed and I'm gutted!!'

You'll get there! Try to avoid that 'f' word, you should just think of this as a bump in the road on the way to ultimate triumph...
It's a 'practice' run, we all have them from time to time. Just slow it down a bit next time and you will be fine.
Don't look at it as failure, it's a minor setback. Try again on Friday and maybe try slowing down a little.
Good luck
I have the same run to do on Friday, I'm sure that a 20-30 secs break didn't take away from your fantastic achievement of running continuously for the length of time you did.
pretty sure you didnt fail , look how far you have come , if your anything like i was i dreaded the 60 second runs , we will call this a blip and smile about how much you can do rather than the cannot !! xx happy running
You almost made it....its hard work in warm weather. Try again.. after your rest day.
Next time, start extra slowly, think about your walk in the middle as a recovery time, then repeat.. starting slowly gives you more in the tank for the last bit..π
Good luck...you will do it.
Thanks for good advice and support. This may sound really silly but I find it really hard to slow down. I will try extra hard though and try focussing on that
I find it really hard to slow down too, I feel like I'm practically walking. But if you can leave yourself a little something in the tank for the end it feels absolutely amazing! I'm starting from the beginning again as I ran a couple of 5ks, then got out of the habit of running. Back to square one, and 5 minutes feels practically impossible to me right now, so you're doing fantastically! Believe in yourself
If you've done the 8 mins once you can do it again. I can only look on in awe - from week 4!
Bluebirdrunner has hit the nail on the head
Oh I no how u feel I used the "f" word on W4R2 but I didn't let it get me down. I'm doing the same run u just done this evening kinda dreading it so will c how it goes keep going ur doing great π
Just slow down... try not to think of it as a f***...more a setback
You can do this..just trust the programme and take it steadily..
Far too many posts about speed bouncing around on the forum currently. so you just carry on.... go on to run 3 and slow it right down
Thank you. I beat myself. I have not found any of the runs easy but have kept going but today's run I don't know why got to me. This may sound silly but I find it really hard to slow it down. I have never taken speed as any part of the runs but like you have noticed some posts goi g on about it. I know I could slow my pace down just got to work out how
Thanks for your great advice and support π
What they all said: Chalk it up as a practice run, do it again much more slowly, focus on your achievement so far, we all have little set-backs on the way.
You'll be absolutely fine Julesh15
It's easy to say "don't feel down or disappointed", but there is no wrong way to do this plan, do what suits you, at your own pace, and if that means that you need to write a run off, you call it a practice and you'll be ready for it when you try again!
Thank you...not sure why as I've not found any of the runs easy but got through it but this one got to me. I will carry on Friday though and see what happens
NOT a fail!!! In my limited experience no 2 runs are the same, "keep calm and carry on!!!"
Thank you all for your brilliant and much appreciated support and advice. I will go out Friday and hopefully put today behind me and start afresh with the next run...thanks again you great bunch ππββοΈππββοΈ
I'd say well done for then running the final minute - it would have been the easiest thing to just give up then.
Did you run? Yes! Did you run before? No! So to me that's not failire...kill that negative voice in your head with a bloomin big dollop of praise. We all have it and I do too, so let's beat it together π
Julesh15 Good luck for Friday. Find yourself a mantra like "I can do it" or mine is "just don't stop", which you can say to yourself with each footfall. It's not physical, it's the mental gremlins that make you think you have to stop...
Getting your mental strategy working now will help you get through - and you WILL do it because you're clearly well on the way. Well done. Keep going and if you pass a shuffling beetroot muttering "just don't stop", that'll be me! I love it!
Hahaha..,thank you for your support and making me laugh. I was only saying to my sister yesterday I was like a sweltering beetroot.
Well I am heading out shortly for run three so I will see how it goes. I will think positively, put on some upbeat music and tell myself "I can do it"
Thank you π
Good luck, have fun, the herd of sweating beetroots are with you!!
Lol...oh my gosh the sweating beatroot did it...just but I did it
My mantra was "I did it" (even though I hadn't I just imagined what i could be saying at the end.
THANK YOU π
Don't look at it as failure. You can do that one again. Have you tried holding your phone so you can see the countdown. It really helps me as if I feel like stopping, I take a glance and it motivates me to continue... (only another minute etc)
Thanks for you advice and support. I've tried holding my phone but find it more difficult with running with something in my hand
Advice is really good though and appreciated
you did brilliantly and think how far you have come from those 60 second runs at the beginning. Some days I really struggle to keep going and usually the next one is fine. May be slow down and repeat this week as well and then you will be well prepared for the next. It doesn't matter how many weeks it takes!!
Thank you...I don't know why I beat myself up over this run but it didn't feel good. You are right it doesn't matter how long it takes but sticking with it and to keep going. It sounds silly but finding it really hard to slow down even though I know I can and should. I will try again shortly
Thanks again π
I have this run to do today I must admit it seems rather daunting but I'm going put on my running shoes and give it my all fingers crossed. Put the past run to the side and focus on your next run you'll be fine βΊβΊ
Thank you...hope your run went well πββοΈπ
I managed it thank fully but it was hard I'm putting if run 3 but am going to give that a try tomorrow
You can do it...have faith. You are doing amazingly and if I could do it you certainly can. I did run 1 of week 6 this morning. I actually found it harder than the 20minute run and I think it's down to the stopping and starting...oh and me not being fit.
Tomorrow I know you can do it and will be grinning like a Cheshire Cat π
I did that run yesterday it's a toughie but be gentle on yourself , you kept going that's not failure x
When i saw your post i thought "you used the f word- duck!!! " Everyone has said it, there is no such thing as a bad run. Rember what it was like 5 weeks ago? Remember how much you have improved? And for your own sake dont use the f word!!
Oh my gosh..,I DID IT!!!
I ran for 20 minutes!!!!
I want to say the biggest thank you to all of you for supporting me and your advice
I slowed it down and even though hadn't finished when I was really feeling it kept saying "I did it" and imagining posting (which I never thought possible) the words I did it
Thank you for all your amazing support and advice....you really are an incredible group...THANK YOU πββοΈππ πββοΈ
Well done runner!!
Go girl!!!
Stick with it.... you've done really well so far... more than I could manage!
I'm sure you'll do it next time I bet you couldn't have run 6 1/2 minutes a few weeks ago.
Julesh I've been there, one thing I didn't do was say to myself "fail", just "good crack I'll get it next time". You know it makes sense....
