Week 5 r3 mind over matter

What a morning,

So I had it in my head that today, Sunday morning would be the day for my first 20 minute run - 20 minutes really? in one go ....

So I took advice from other runners before me and took a break between runs, got up early so it would be cooler temps to run, hydrated the day before, went without the normal Saturday night tipple.

Primed and ready to go, 5 mins in I think I’m ok, 8 minutes in I’m thinking only 12 mins to go.

There’s a flaw in the plan with the route I picked. I thought I would reach the 20 mins on a reasonably flatish track and the up hill bits I would I be able to walk back over.

Oh no, some small uphills at the half way point. However mind over matter, at 8 mins left I know I have already done this before so i can do this again, take a steady pace Sarah reminds me at only 5 mins then only 2 mins to go. Well I can defo do 2 mins and then I’m done.

I’m so pleased. Before this programme I would have given up after a minute or 2.

Great advice from others has really helped. So off to gym now and then swot up for week 6.

Happy Sunday everyone.

Well done! Don’t underestimate week 6. A lot of people expect it to be easier but it isn’t. You’ll be fine as long as you’re aware of that though.

Thanks ArthurJG, it really helps when you get these types of heads up. I looked at run 1 on the walk back from today’s session and did wonder why it had gone back to walk breaks

It goes back to the walk breaks because it’s a longer workout, 24 minutes, which is what people overlook. You’re building up to 25 minutes continuous at the end of the week.

Well done “chunking” the run like that - I quarter mine in my head and it makes it so much easier.
